Bookster:  Funny how Bootcamp brings that out in them!  I had the same kind of response when my son was there.  During this initial "breakdown" process, the emotions just come tumbling out for many of them, and they learn to appreciate what they are missing!  Those letters will be so very precious...so keep them in a safe place!  :-)

MRIES: I miss my son every second of EVERY day :( the missing him has not gotten easier but my pride in him has increased so much that it helps balance it out. These last two years of high school he was never home. Pretty much just showed to eat and sleep. He is a gym rat, so if he was not working he was at the gym prepping for the military or with his friends. My siblings all adored him and showered him with love but he was always very non chalant towards them. If you could see the difference in his letters we have gotten(2) my gosh! He tells me he loves me at LEAST twenty times in his letters. He sends his love to the whole family REPEATEDLY. He regrets all the time he spent with friends instead of us. I am utterly amazed. Maybe because he is being showered with letters from family and not from friends?? I dont know but it sure has brought me to tears MANY times.

Just wanted to say Hi to everyone. I don't often write anything but always read what others write. This is great support. It has been very difficult letting go of my son. I really miss him alot. It helps to read what other moms post.  So thank you so much for being here:)

There are several kinds of Machinist Mates. Surface, Nukes, Sub. There is also an Aviation one.

Surface MM's attend A School in GL's for about nine weeks.

Sub in Groton, CT

Nukes in Charleston, SC

Aviation in Pensacola, FL
