Struggling with booking return flight. Want to time it so I am able to be at airport with my SR who is leaving for GC after PIR. Any advice?
Thank you chowdercall; good advice :) My only real traveling will probably be for Thanksgiving dinner.
For those who wish to drive to PIR, you can elect to park on base or off. A hint we have (courtesy of Sarge) is for all to stay to the left on Buckley headed to RTC.....line of cars waiting to get onto RTC will be on your right. Bypass RTC and turn around right past there at the train station, heading back to RTC from the opposite way. Easy left turn onto RTC then!
For those who don't mind walking a little, you can park off base at the train station (about 1/4 mile walk to RTC front gate). I believe it may be paid parking there, not sure.
So, for those wanting to shuttle to PIR (other than Ramada which has its own shutte/Navy Lodge too), sounds like the best thing is to share a cab (Sarge's cab) with a few others if your group is small and split the fare. Otherwise, use the city shuttles (taxi) that you reserve through your hotel when you arrive and pay the $3/pp each way.
I wasn't planning on renting a car but, looking at the rates...maybe I should. I was there such a short time before but, this PIR I'll be there 4 days. To and from base, to and from base, etc. Hmm.
I added BattleStations info up top in the discussions!
Re; taxi rates, this is why we say it is really more economical to rent a car if a person is able to. Between airport shuttle charges/taxi rates around town, it can add up fast!
I just read your other post, chowdercall. Thanks for the clarification that the PIR rates still apply. I will wait to hear from Sarge to confirm that!
Thanks, chowdercall. I emailed him last night---waiting for a reply. If this is true, it is a major change in our info. We knew that the $3 rates were only to/from PIR ---and after that, regular taxi rates applied, but this sounds like it includes PIR.
Good Morning All !
Nick's Mom & Arizona mom,
It's normal for the SRs to be down at first or feel challenged, but it gets better as they go through their training! They find their purpose, they figure out why they are there, and they presevere!! They will turn around and when you see them again as Sailors, your heart will well up with pride to see the young men and young women they have become!
