rjeyvie,

Yes, you get PIR day afternoon/evening (Wednesday) after they've moved over to their A school side, Thanksgiving, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with your Great Lakes A school SR/Sailor!!  Super blessings for you~~

chowdercall911,

I had the same concerns driving where it snows when I live south of you where it doesn't snow.  The roads were cleared very nicely.  I just had to really look for the driveways of where I was going because those snowbanks can be high and hard to see over.

My Enterprise car rental was only $124 for Thursday - Saturday.  I'll put up an upgrade coupon when I post my PIR Tips soon when the Discussion Forum is set up by ellen0502.  If you use Sarge, he will be $157 or so roundtrip from Midway and you get a free ride to PIR, but have to pay $3.00 to get back to you hotel.  If you want to explore a bit, you will need a car for that, (or rely on Sarge) then there is another roundtrip of $157 to the airport to meet your now Sailor hubby to give him his electronics and comfy underwear.  One more thing.  The Sailors aren't allowed to drive motor vehicles during the PIR time either.

You can use Sarge's shuttle to get you to PIR no problem and it's $3.00 each way.  If you need to ask him questions, contact him at 847-212-0246 or JohnSpadaro@att.net

Nancystj,

Have you checked the airfares directly with the airlines?  It didn't seem like booking with Kayak, Priceline, Expedia, etc.. was saving me any money last year, so I just booked directly with Delta.  Hotels like to be booked directly with too and I've heard of reservations made via those sites not being honored.  Plus you have to pay the whole trip in advance to them. When you book with the hotel direct, no deposit is required and you can cancel up to the day of check-in. Also, your card is not charged for the hotel stay until the end of your stay.

If you choose Southwest Airlines, which flies into Chicago Midway and Milwaukee, there is no change fee to change flight plans, so if something happens, you can use your ticket another time.  Also 2 bags checked in for free.

Just wondering if you folks are buying refundable plane tickets (which unless I was reading it wrong were like 3 times the price) or just getting regular tickets and hoping there's no need to cancel. I got nervous when I read how some recruits might not graduate if they don't pass each week. I have no reason to think my son will have any problems short of getting hurt or sick or something. I just wasn't sure what to do. What are you guys doing?

Wow, just wondering, if there are going to be turkeys baked in the hotel rooms, where does all the leftovers go??

chowdercall911,

So glad you have a plan for you and your baby girl to spend with your SR hubby!  Don't forget to request a crib as part of your hotel reservation to make sure it is noted.

I hope you have found more reasonable airfares than the 1K you were looking at~~  Your baby flies free, right??

Please note the temperatures in Great Lakes...you probably need to pick up heavier clothing for the both of you.  Heavy coat, sweaters, sweatshisrts, long sleeved shirts for layering, scarf, gloves, boots/athletic shoes with thick socks, maybe a knit cap for you and for sure for your daughter.  Heavier sleep and plays (long sleeved with booties one-piece garments),socks, onesies for layering...wow, brings me back to my baby days 23 years ago!!

so I know Thursday is thanksgiving and what about friday? can they go out? and we can hang out with them on saturday and sunday right if their A school is at great lakes?

Arizona mom,

Your son could also be coming home the week after Christmas.  During stand down, half the base leaves for Christmas, then the other half leaves the following week of New Year's~~

I'm close to booking flight, hotel and car with Priceline. Does anyone know if I buy their "trip Protection" will I get a full refund if God forbid my son doesn't graduate on time? They are closed now and I just was wondering. Thanks
