navyfam: You are right. Some are there longer than others, waiting on a division to fill up. Processing days can therefore last that long. They adjust the training schedules and all divisions will be on schedule to graduate on the 14th. My son's Day 1-1 was on his 12th day there and he was the first division of his PIR group. Maybe the ones who are processing longer are the higher divisions....such as with Dramaboy's division?

DramaboysMom, I have heard of them being on hold division fills up. I am a Newbie too but from what I have read it can be awhile. It sound encouraging that they graduating on 1/14/2011 though...they must have done some training. Or are in a (push) division-meaning they will push to PIR with the other divisions who were not on p-hold. All in all it still sounds ok. Maybe some of the other experience moms can chime in. Just curious, Is there anyone else in Ship 07 Div 046? The letter from the child said that they had to wait for processing (P-hold) Letter was sent on Friday, so I don't know if that is the day they were processed. Can tell you that he went in on Nov 10. (10til 19? Really? 9 day hold???)

Ahem...we had 13 divisions...oh how quickly Ms. Dianne forgets....lol...it was incredibly awesome...the place was full...I can't imagine having another division in there...but no one was turned away...the room was just singing with sound and when the star spangled banner was sung....well man holy toledo...the great hall just rang with the sound. There was not an empty seat. When they opened those big doors....all you could see was a huge sea of sailors as far as your eyes could see..I will never forget that site...

NSGL posted a link to this newspaper article on facebook. It made me feel a little better. Here's the main part of the article:

While hundreds of sailors will be Thanksgiving Day dinner guests off the Navy base, Great Lakes will serve more than 2,000 service members from noon to 3 p.m. Thursday.

More than 50 USO of Illinois volunteers will serve a buffet-style feast of turkey and stuffing, potatoes, vegetables, beverages and holiday pies and cakes, and with the help of the Great Lakes Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department, give them a sense of being “home away from home.”

“When the sailors arrive at the USO/MWR Thanksgiving Dinner, they’re served far more than excellent food,” said Ross Docksey, USO of Illinois chairman and CEO. “Each sailor is personally welcomed by a USO volunteer who thanks the sailor for his or her service. Dinner is served by smiling volunteers, all of whom are dedicated to ensuring that the sailors have a wonderful Thanksgiving.”
