Very well said Ash-Nuke Wife! Our recruits are sacrificing alot and we need to let them know how thankful we are. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours and especially your "little peanut"

In 3 days we will be sitting around table with our family and friends enjoying a great meal. As I sit there holding hands to pray I'm sure I will imagine our recruits all sitting down to a meal together. I know this year when I'm asked "what are you thankful for?" I will say "I'm thankful for my husband and his choice to join the US Navy. I am thankful that he is making a sacrafice for me and our unborn child so we can have a better life." This will be our first Holiday Married. We will not be able to share "Our First Christmas" together or bring in the New Year but I know there will be plenty of Holiday's we will share together in the future! Remember your Recruit this Holiday Season and let them know how Thankful you are for them and their decision.

joyceann: A cab from Union Station to your hotel shouldn't be too expensive. Everything is pretty close there. The train station is right by the base....of course, it will be more than the special $3 shuttle (actually cabs) fee since this will be actual cab fare. But I'm pretty sure you can keep your firstborn! :-)

I just received my letter telling me that my son will graduate on 1/14/11...so now I need to make hotel reservations. Will my son be able to spend the days with us after graduation? He will stay right in Great Lakes for school after grad. Any recommendations for hotels? I am so excited, only 52 more days till I get to see my son!
Comment by Lynne on November 22, 2010 at 1:56pm
Just to further confuse the situation about hotels we stayed at the Candlewood Suites...now there isn't a shuttle or breakfast...but they do have a little store inside to buy food. We got a military rate of 69.00 per night. We had a one bedroom suite with a pull out couch and full kitchen. It was so nice. The hotel itself was brand new. It is in the same area as Springwood, the Residence Inn. etc.

HELLO SR FAMILIES! Whew. Glad to be here! Just got the official letter for my kiddos PIR and I am excited. ( Been waiting 13 days for the letter!) I am so much better now that I have an address. And now friends and family can start sending their letters! Whew!

Diannep-I will be coming in on the amtrak and landing in Union Station. I'm trying to figure out how to get from union station to the hotel without having to hand over my first born child as payment :) .

Hmmmm - I think I'll definitely check back on that! Thanks, Dianne!
Comment by diannep on November 22, 2010 at 1:07pm
WHAT? Never heard of that before. I would wait until later (they change shifts at 3, I think) and call back to get a different person. Maybe they thought you wanted a cab from the airport to the hotel? Did you specifiy shuttle to PIR? When you check in, you sign up then at the front desk. Also when I called Springhill yesterday for someone, they told me the same thing there so that is the way it normally works.
