Great news all...got my form letter on my arrival home today...very proud of my son...he is Ship 12 Div 039. My son was made Section Leader and might have the privilege of going to his sister's PIR which is 12/17/2010...so awesome...he is in great spirit and seem to be loving it. Awesom young man...yes my daughter is also at Great Lakes.

they can spend up to 2 weeks in processing and recruits can arrive on the same day and be in different divisions and even in different PIRs and I have no idea how they put them in divisions. Now, my son was in a special division called Cardinal Company. It was formed prior to boot camp and was sponsored by the St. Louis Cardinals. They actually all met up in St. Louis 3 days prior to leaving for boot camp and were sworn in on National TV....other than that I have no idea how they decide who goes in what division...lol

It's official my SR PIR date is 1-14-11 for Ship 12 Div 040. So glad to finally have a PIR group to join:-) I have sent several letters to my SR and now anticipate sending him a Thanksgiving card to tell him how 'thankful' we are for his decision to enlist and become a US Navy Sailor. I will be sad and happy at the same time since this will be our first holiday apart.

joyceann ~ our son's are in the same div 040 :-)

Hi all! My son is ship 12 Div 040. I just wanted to let you guys know that I am keeping up his facebook page for him while he is gone, so that his friends can jot him down quick messages. Eighteen year old boys aren't the greatest for writing letters to their friends. Every time someone leaves a message for him, I have copied and pasted it. Today I printed it out and will put it in a letter to send to him. I sure hope he likes hearing from 20 people in one letter!

Glad to have found this group. Thanks to all for so much valuable information! Susanm - my son arrived on the 9th as well but he is in div 42. Wonder if that means he arrived later - after 41 was full? I was actually surprised he wasn't graduating until the 14th. That will be almost 10 weeks! I wonder if that means he spent almost 2 weeks in processing!?

Morning all...it is a bright, cold, chilllllly day in Great Lakes...bet they are doing double time to keep warm...lol!! Of course, they spend about 90% of their time indoors so it is not too bad. Anyway hope you all are writing, writing, writing those letters. When mail call finally comes they will be living for those letters. They will love to get letters from anyone and anything your dog, you plants...I even sent one from my son's favorite video game (Call of Duty) after a couple of his buddies came over and played it. It was hysterical and he really enjoyed. Sothe sky is the limit...have fun...but keep writing...everyday. Remmber though Lynne's commandments:

1) Thou shalt not send any musical, glittery, over-sixed or any kind of cards that draw attention to the recruit. That which draws attention may result in PT or IT.

2) Thou shalt not send care packages of any kind or type. The RDCs may enjoy them, however the recruits will not enjoy doing PT while the RDCs enjoy the contents in front of them...lol.

3) Thou shalt not send any depressing or sad information to the recruit during boot camp. If you are sad...Tell us. If you are lonely, tell us. If you are worries, tell us. Please keep your cards and letters, uplifting and encouraging.

4) Thou shalt never take the RDCs name in vain...because you never know who is lurking and reading the site. This is a public site and yes, the RDCs do get on here and read and if your recruit vents to you, and you call the RDC ugly names here...the recruits may pay the price. We love our RDCs and we know they are only doing the BEST for our recruits...lol!!

5) Thou shalt not use your recruits picture, or name in your screen name or picture. There are many reasons for this including that the RDCs may read this site and the recruits want to fly under the radar and would in all liklihood prefer the RDCs dont know their names. In addition, your recruit probably doesn't want to hear...."your momma was worried about you"...lol...doesn't really go with the strong tough military image. It is also good practice for later on when your recruits are sailors and they may have jobs that require secuirty and confidentiality.

Okay those are my commandments...I hope you follow them...

Hi Lala Ribbon Queen, thanks for encouragement and telling us a little about yourself. I have a daoughter in BC, haven't received the form letter, but her boyfriend (who she lives with) may get it. He is good about texting me any info. he receives thought...I believe she is in the 1/14/2011 PIR group since she got to GL on 11/10, ship 7 div 044, according to her recruiter! Since she has lived away from home the past couple of years the separation is not nearly as traumatic! Thanks again and I love your ribbons...I'll send you a friend request. Have a wonderful day :) God Bless!
