so can family pick up sailors on the 25th between 8-9 ?
is there any one out there ith sailors in Ship 12 div. 040
@Karla ~ thanks for the Christmas day update for our recruits not leaving with family. Sounds like they will have a funfilled day ahead of them.
Ash my SR stressed during the phone call last week that they are opening the gate from 8-9, no exceptions. I'm staying at the navy lodge which is only 1.5 miles from the base so I plan on leaving at around 7:45 (unless someone has a reason for me to leave earlier.. I'm open to advice!). I don't really think there will be that long of a line because I'm thinking that only a portion of families are able to do the Adopt-A-Sailor so there won't be that many people. And if they won't open the gate until 8am anyway, I'm guessing there isn't a reason to go any earlier.
For the families getting their recruits out on Christmas day: What time are you heading over to base to pick up your recruit? Do you think there will be a long line of cars at the gate?
I asked about Christmas day for the recruits that are not able to be part of the adopt-a-sailor program. I was thrilled with the answer I received on FB:
Recruits graduating Jan. 7 and 14 who will not be going with families on Christmas Day will be adopted in groups by local civic organizations such as churches, VFWs, American Legions, etc. These recruits will enjoy a day with their shipmates watching movies, playing video games, feasting on a meal provided by hundreds of volunteers in the community and of course, phone calls! Some groups arrange for computers to be available.
I think, if it is like Thanksgiving they will be wearing their peanut butters...this consits of a khaki colored shirt and black pants. They look very nice. Be sure you have a lint roller or two with you because the white scarves they wear around their neck are wool and just leak lint all over the place. In addition, make sure you have a tide pen in case there is a little accident...lol..I am sure your recruits are neat....I wouldn't have been so trusting of mine!

Thanks Vanessa, it is really quite a break and I am so thankful we are able to get out there and take advantage of the time. I do not know what uniform they will be in. Although I did ask ;-)
Can you share the link where you found the info. When I looked on FB for GL RTC I got several sites but not that seemed to include our PIR 1/14? Thanks
Oh, and also, I saw on RTC's facebook page in a response to someone else that usually they only do Adopt-A-Sailor for the PIR group directly after Christmas (1/7) but there weren't enough people in that training group so they made an exception to include our SR's! And my SR said his RDC's said if it were up to them they wouldn't let them go, but it was not their decision. So all of us going to GL for Christmas need to thank our lucky stars because we got quite a break!
Does anyone know if they will be wearing their camo's or their dress uniform when off base on Christmas? Just curious and by the time I ask my SR and get his response it will be a while... haha.
