Thanks for correcting that, FTLW.  I guess the only ones not needing a chit for either of those hotels are the ones who will be flying out (and therefore still attached to RTC, not GL A School).  How confusing!  I'm assuming that those moving over to A School are having no problem getting the chits as until recently, we have not heard of problems with sailors visiting families' hotel rooms in those 2 hotels.

I loved this as a kid. I remember anxiously awaiting when my favorite TV's shows would come on each year :-) Enjoy!

I know it seems like a pain and people will post that they had no problems...but then we have also heard about the few that have had there Sailor confronted for a chit.

TSC GL is working towards consistency about the Sailors being informed during INDOC about the chit. In the meantime, we have let you know so let your Sailor know to ask for one.

Better safe than sorry. I would not want to be the Sailor confronted without one.

The chit is required for both the Navy Lodge and the navy Gateway Inn and Suites according to TSC GL Abridged Phase Liberty Policy (that's the link to the NOTE on TSC FB) for those Sailors attaching to TSC GL for A school following PIR.

Here is the NOTE Section F,2

F. Liberty Boundaries and off-limits areas

           2) Students are prohibited from entering Bldg 30 (Boorda Hall), Bldg 62 (Navy Gateway Inns and Suites), the 400 complex (with the exception of BEQ 439) and on-base housing (which includes the Navy Lodge) and Forest City Housing unless you are listed as a resident. During recruit graduation weekend from Recruit Training Command, if recruits attaching to to TSC-GL have family staying in the Navy Lodge or Gateway Inns and Suites, they will be required to route a special request chit to the OIC to be able to enter and meet the family at their room.

And an accompanying response from TSC GL in the Comment section:

Training Support Center (TSC) Great Lakes For recruit graduation weekend only, recruits who are checking into "A" School at TSC must request a chit in order to visit family at the Gateway Inn and Navy Lodge for that weekend only. Otherwise, students are not allowed at either location.

diannep- I called that number you gave me and I told them that I know we are allowed the 3 guests and if my sailors 2 sisters  are allowed to watch in the Chapel, he informed me that they are allowed as long as they are 18 years or older if not they need to be accompanied by and adult. If any one has questions I would just call the PAO 847 688 2405. They were very helpful.

Where the confusion I think is coming from is that those sailors moving over to GL A School base (shortly after PIR) with families staying on A School base (Navy Gateway, not Navy Lodge)....must get a chit when they move over to that base in order to visit families at that hotel.  There usually is no problem getting the chit.  For those with sailors flying out, they are still under RTC's authority and there is no need for a chit to visit family's hotel rooms.

Emily:  For several months recently, some of the RDCs are telling the SRs that they will not be allowed to visit their families in the hotel rooms at Navy Lodge without getting a chit (permission) first.  Families who had booked there were freaked out as it was right before their PIR dates.  I contacted Brian Walsh and he wanted to know what divisions were being told this---was going to try and get it straight.  We don't really understand why some of the RDCs tell the SRs different things.....
