So happy for you splash!! I'm getting anxious. I can't wait to hear from my SR.
Good morning Moms!
My daughter just called me. I spoke to her for 33 mins. She is in Ship 03 Div 028. I hope you all get calls from your SR's today. She sounds good and is happy with her decision to join the Navy. She said when she first arrived she wondered what she got herself into but now really likes it. I is so nice to know that she is doing well. Happy Momma!!
Heads up! They are making phone calls this morning!
The Marriott Spring Hill Suites AAA rate was 104.00. When I called the hotel directly an asked for the Navy graduation rate it was 99.00. They have free breakfast, pool and offer said they offer transportation to the PIR not sure if that is free or if there is a cost. Also was able to get a Budget car rental from 12/4 to 12/7 for 113.10 then had another discount so it came to 90.48. Both of these can be cancelled without penalty. Southwest had good prices on airfares also. Hope this helps.
Q's mom,
Re-posting my answer to your previous question:
The Navy Lodge already has the lowest rate, but the other hotels don't always have the Navy graduation rate posted online. This is why we ask you to call them direct. Also, lots of hotels don't like the 3rd party sites and may not honor a reservation that you have to pay in full with such a company. If you book direct, there is no deposit and your stay is not charged to your card till the end of your stay~~ Plus you have all the way till the day of to cancel or change your reservation...
Hey everyone, I want to give you a "HEADS UP" to be prepared to receive calls from your SRs this weekend! The call will show up as "847", "Pay Phone", or "Government" or anything else that may be unfamiliar. If it is a sales call, just politely tell them "No, thank you."
During this time in Boot Camp, please keep your cell phones charged, ready, and with you all the time---upstairs, downstairs, out in the backyard, in the bathroom, out to get the mail, of course, out on errands. If you are going to a loud restaurant or a movie theater, remember to put it on "vibrate" and put in your pocket or some place you can feel it. They can call during the week or weekend, so just be prepared: 6:00 am - 6:00 pm (West Coast); 8:00 am - 8:00 pm (Great Lakes time); 9:00 am - 9:00 pm (East Coast).
Q's mom,
Thanks for the name change! $109.00 sounds like a reasonable rate if you won't be at the Navy Lodge. For example, I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Waukegan and it was $114.99 last year. This hotel has a hot serve yourself breakfast with waffles, biscuits & gravy, eggs, bacon, sausage and the other stuff that makes up continental breakfasts. It also has an indoor pool. If your SR wants to swim at the pool, he/she needs to have their Navy issued swim attire with them, so let them know that this activitiy is available~~
Everyone,
Want you gals to ask your SRs to look out for info on the Adopt-a-Sailor program where families and community groups can adopt SRs only in 2 particular divisions out for Thanksgiving. This year your PIR group, 12/05/2014, will be eligible to be adopted out. Here's info on the program from the Boot Camp Moms group:
Adopt-A-Sailor Program: There are programs to Adopt recruits in the senior divisions for Thanksgiving and Christmas and to Adopt Sailors at GL for "A" School or training for Thanksgiving. These recruits and Sailors are adopted by a family member or one of several organizations the area. The Thanksgiving Adopt-A-Sailor program is for the next 2 TG's after Thanksgiving and Sailors who are in "A" School or training at the TSC. The Christmas Adopt-A-Sailor program is for 2 TG's after Christmas--it has been the 2 TG's following Christmas, but the RTC has also skipped the TG immediately after Christmas and adopted out the first 2 TG's in January. There will be information on the program, including what TG's are eligible, posted on the RTC’s fB page (U.S. Recruit Training Command) and you will get a form from your recruit if s/he is eligible for either program that you must return by a specified date if you plan to adopt him/her.
