Michellex2,

So sorry to hear about those Sailors and the parents experience!  Were the Sailors stuck with waiting with their 50 lb seabags on their backs and all??  The USO volunteer couldn't do anything to help?

My Sailor daughter also flew from Midway Airport in March 2013 on Delta Airlines and she and us parents waiting for gate passes had no problem and were processed quickly after the USO volunteer escorted the groups to the different airline counters.

I think this was an isolated incident with the agents manning the counter this weekend.  Delta Airlines usually has excellent service.  My daughter flew with them when she came home after completing A school and also when she came home for Christmas last year~~

Hope you still have that gate pass so Delta can figure out which manager and ticket agents were involved~~  Poor babies!!

Our sons group flew Delta & were treated with the utmost respect all day. When they boarded they were called up first and the gate attendant thanked them for their service. The entire gate area stood & applauded as they boarded. It was amazing. I guess it all just depends on the gate attendant you have.

Michellex2

here is a website for you to email Delta's problem.  I would write to everyone available.  Most companies hate to have anything like this in writing and will take action to fix it.  I would also get on the phone and not stop until you reach the top.

Michellex2,

I am sorry about your experience with Delta,   perhaps a call or two (mother-in-law) to someone at the Navy would help.    A call from the Navy would probably cause them to behave differently.  Also Facebook does a lot to pass the word to fly someone besides Delta.         My sailor flew United and they took care of us with much courtesy.  (Granted it was 5:15 am and no body else was there, but they couldn't have been more helpful.)

Part 1 of the journey is over. It was a whirlwind! We saw our sailor off yesterday from Midway Airport. I am absolutely disgusted with how our group of sailors were treated by the Delta representatives at the check in desk when we were trying to obtain our gate passes. I have never seen anything like it! The new sailors were standing in a line waiting for over an hour and a half. Some of the parents asked for a manager and were ignored. Delta indicated that their policy was to check in regular passengers first. Even when they had no regular passengers our sailors just stood and waited. After 2 hours we did get our gate pass thanks to my fiery mother-in-law who was not leaving the counter until the manager came out of hiding. I will be contacting Delta Corporate office on Monday and maybe a news station or 2. I will make sure I never fly Delta again.

michellex2,  Hi Michelle x 2,  During the evening at Sarge's I kept thinking I recognized the name and I finally did.   You had given me a "hang in there".   It was so good to meet you and your mom?.  We had a lot of fun.  Glad our paths crossed.    Good luck to both of your sailors and you.

Thanks to all of you for your support, help and advice these past 2 months.  Because of  you, we got to hang out at Sarge's, meet some fellow Navy Mom's,  get the inside scoop and how to do things.   If it weren't for you guys, I never would have known about going to the airport and gate passes that allowed us extra hours with our sailor.   I can't tell you how much it means to me knowing that he can now communicate (not just with me but also with his friends) via the cell phone and computer I took to him at the airport. Without this site that would not have happened.  Thanks to all and a strong, HOOYAH! to all of your on the next leg of your journey.
