ParkyWife - Is your future Sailor going to GL for A school or elsewhere?
CatMom509 - I think you may be thinking about civilians staying at the Navy Gateway on base. Civilians who wish to stay at the Gateway must make reservations 30 days prior as they have to have background check to do so.
The chit that the Sailors get to be able to enter is on the day of PIR at INDOC.
Okay...just went through this today to try and make sense of it.
Those new Sailors that will be attaching to TSC GL for A school MUST have a chit to be able to visit Family at either the Navy Gateway or Navy Lodge.
When they attach to TSC GL they are under their authority...those that are going to A school anywhere other than GL are still attached to RTC and under their authority.
The Sailors are supposed to be informed about this when they get their Liberty brief in INDOC upon arrival at TSC GL...however, some NMTI's (Navy Military Training Instructors - TSC's version of RTC RDC's) give out this information and others do not. It get's overlooked. The COC is in the process of ensuring that this information gets told to the Sailors by the NMTI's...it takes time for it to cement in.
BUT you now know and when you see your Sailor at PIR you can remind them they need a chit and to please speak up about it.
Friends,
This scripture is so appropriate for the Battlestations that your SRs will be going through soon. Perhaps you can share with your SR in a letter now.
"Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have summoned you by name; you are mine.
When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you; and when you pass
through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord,
your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior..."
Isaiah 43:1b-3a
ParkyWife,
He receives the chit from his Recruit Division Commanders and should have been told when to turn it in. To stay at the Navy Gateway, it should have been turned in 30 days prior to the stay.
He doesn't need it if you are staying at the Navy Lodge or any of the other hotels in Waukegan/Gurnee.
Hello All!
"But do not forget to do good and to share,
for with such sacrifices God is well pleased."
Hebrews 13:16
ParkyWife,
A chit is a form your SR fills out which needs to be approved. It has to be filled out when requesting leave, persmission to be somewhere, and for those who are thinking of it, persmission to get married while in A school! (An interesting tidbit, eh??) It has to be submitted to the supervising personnel and gets reviewed for approval~~
Diannep
What is a "chit"? How do you get an approval?
Good Afternoon, Everyone! Hope all are having a good day!
Just wanted to share something for those staying at Navy Lodge or Navy Gateway (the one on A School base). If your sailor is going to A School in GL, he/she must have a chit to visit family staying in either of these hotels. Although that normally is not a problem (getting the chit), if you are worried about it, you may want to stay in another hotel. The civilian hotels do not have rules like that. This is an A School rule and only affects those sailors going to GL A School. Those flying out for A School remain under RTC authority and are allowed at these hotels to visit family.
