honor courage and commitment,,, yes if it is a family or friend of your recruit you can use all 3 spots you are supplied Your recruit can usually change or add quest up til about 5 days prior to PIR.  You can use your three for whoever you want as long as the recruit gets them on the list. 

I believe that was all you were asking.

Its seems like whatever was written, and now gone was taken out of contexts, by both parties perhaps????     Remember we all are unable to hear how the words are being expressed with just words and not a voice to hear empathy.   We have to try to see and understand both parties.

Tensions are high, emotions are all over the place.....all on here are looking for support and looking to help others.  Sometimes things are posted and interpreted in a way maybe they weren't meant. 

It would be nice if all of the sailor's family members could get into PIR.....but just not always possible.  PIR groups with 13 or more divisions have only 3 guests allowed (4 for those groups with 12 or less).....You will see how crowded it is in there with just the people on the list.  When we were up there, we only had 9 divisions...and it was still pretty crowded. 

For those with extras who are younger children, elderly relatives, disabled who may need to be closer to families.....they may have accommodations for them in the Chapel on base to watch the Livestream.....not a guarantee but possible.   Contact RTC about this:  847 688 2405

michelle:  The SRs from this group and the 12/12 group were available to be adopted out by family members, but I believe the form had to be mailed to you by your SR and the due date has now passed.  You can try contacting RTC about it though.  If your SR is going to be attending a community event for Thanksgiving, you may be able to meet your SR there, just not sure.  847 688 2405

Something to add to this thread. 

I understand it seems perplexing, so let me explain a little bit about military installations in general and RTC. 

January 2013 the fire code regulations were changed resulting in significant reduction in guest capacity. That's from there website. You can go there and read the Captain's message to families about this. 

All bases (RTC is no exception) are defense ready (DEFCON level). Meaning just as it sounds, what level of Defense they are at. This usually depends on the imminent danger of the US based on the world condition. Not all commands are on the same DEFCON level and there are other factors (****CON's) that determine this, but we won't go there :-)

RTC is first and foremost a training facility. On the day of PIR, or Pass -In -Review, while anywhere from 300 to 1100 New Sailors graduate from RTC there are possibly 2-5000+ Recruits still going going through their training process. The safety,security and privacy of these recruits is top priority. 300 to 1100 Sailors graduating means 1200 to 3300 civilians coming onboard RTC for the day (potentially). Every week there is a PIR the base personnel make ready for it. They may do this all the time but it is a time consuming process I am sure with procedure that must be followed...I's dotted and t's crossed so to speak.

When you attend PIR your Sailors is your Sponsor. Meaning he/she is responsible for you. They have basically told Security that you are not a threat to be onboard. They are held accountable for your actions to an extent. Ex: You take pictures where you are not supposed too. Your camera is at risk of being confiscated and the pictures deleted if digital or film taken away. Your Sailor may possibly get "called on the carpet "as well.

So, I know that it is a celebration and we think no one would be a threat. Essentially, this is basically true. However, the bottom line is that it is a military installation. I have heard of the DEFCON level changing when we have amped military operations in the world. When the DEFCON goes up, restrictions increase to keep the base operational ready and secure.

RTC is also a restricted base as far as vehicles entry. Only vehicles with a base sticker or those that have a vehicle gate pass will be allowed onboard. You may not bring your vehicle onboard if you have a vehicle sticker from another base. 

They do allow it to be livestreamed to try and make it accessible for all. 

I hope this kind of helps...I know it doesn't change the "feeling"of it.

Hi, I have a question about Thanksgiving- does anyone know if they will be able to spend Thanksgiving with their families if we are going to be in the GL area?

I am so glad the Navy streamlines the graduation program.  I have many family members who would love to see my son at PIR.  They will be watching from home.  From what I was told at MEPS, the Navy is the only branch of service who offers this.  Thank you Navy.

Sorry, it is what it is. If anyone is caught adding people that are not their own family, both Sailors and both families will be in big trouble~~ RTC made this rule effective January 2013~~

Graduation Hall was packed with 10 divisions and 4 guests each at my Sailor daughter's PIR.  Just think how it will be with13 divisions and 3 guests like yours!!
