Happy PIR Day....almost!  Be early tomorrow!  You can choose your seating that way.  If driving, stay to the left on Buckley (main drag to RTC), car line to RTC on your right.  Bypass RTC and turn around at the train station right past it.  Head back from opposite direction.  Easy left turn onto RTC...no waiting!

Enjoy your very special day starting in just a few more hours!

This is just my personal thoughts and suggestion...

Something like this is made public very quickly as we can see from the news reports already out.

I am sure that the Base will be flying the Flag at half mast and that personnel will be wearing something out of respect for their fallen comrade. It is difficult for me to believe that they would not do so. Folks are going to see that and wonder anyways.

Also, Guests get to PIR very, very early. You are all sitting for a couple of hours before PIR starts and I am sure those that don't know will find out then as well. Let me suggest that you make extra ribbons to take to PIR to give out to those that find out then.

Yes, it will be a shock to those that don't know, and I think it is very caring and sensitive to think about those folks. I am concerned about them, but my concern outweighs that for those that do know. Who are in mourning. Sailor Adams' family, the Sailors and Recruits and personnel at RTC and beyond that. This is where those of us lending support can come in. We can show support for our new Sailors and new Navy family.

You can celebrate your new Sailors :-) and celebrate the life of one of their fallen as well.

I actually called Sarge too...
Yes, some people that are not on Facebook or NavyForMoms will never have heard this, but the same thing will happen when they pick up the base newspaper today when they see the story..

All we can do as a Navy family is show total respect to this sailor.   As we enjoy the M&G tonight, we still have to show our respect to our fallen sailor.  Rather than a armband ribbon, I actually think it better to wear the normal chest ribbon "loop-t-loop" ribbon (the breast cancer research) style.  Place it over your heart as a
small way of showing that we do care as a Navy family....

Sarge will have ribbon material (and safety pins) available tonight for those that wish to have one.

I will bring some blac ribbon. Thin Yellow ribbon. Florist wire. Thread. some yellow tag board. Black,Yellow, And navy crepe paper to Sarges this evening. I don't know how much or what we need but it's a start. And a glue gun
What if we sent our armbands to the parents at the end of the weekend with a small notecard attached. Perhaps only wit the division number or sailors name. Just a suggestion. You won't hurt my feelings if these are awful ideas.

Thank you Craig....

Craig,

I meant to thank you for your touching tribute to Sailor Andrew Adams earlier today~~  It was very comforting.  I'm very emotional thinking of him and the ABC News clip that diannep posted has a picture of him, so now I can see him when I read his name...

I know our Lord is holding the Adams family very close right now~~   The black arm bands is a very meaningful way to show support to them.  Hope it will get around to most of the families at PIR...

Hey all....
Per SR Adams...

I love the idea of what Easttesasnavymomma said about wearing an black armband in respect to this young sailor.  I think if you stay away from the normal ribbons that are worn, and actually have an armband it will show so much respect and will show how we family members are a unified and cohesive group.

So please wear a black armband on Friday.  I will also pass the word to the Facebook side.  In addition, I will try to get word to "Sarge" to have some ribbons material available at the Meet-n-Greet.  While at the M&G you can make your own.....   I think the armband is totally awesome!

Mourning/Respect Armbands
This old and seldom used Navy custom of wearing a black armband is to show our respect for a lost sailor. The wearing of the black arm band was seen as appropriate for military men compelled to wear their uniform in the course of their duties. It is also appropriate for family members, friends, and those that would like to pay respect to the sailor.
Here are some examples of the armbands.
