mitchelsmom:  RTC asks that the extras stay off base to watch the Livestream, but they do make provisions for some to watch it in the Chapel on base.  You may want to call RTC to verify that anyone can watch it in the Chapel....the guy I spoke with there a few months back said they still want extras to stay off base but do make provisions in the Chapel for some.  847 688 2405

My SR said that the PIR is shown in the chapel. Is that on base? My 2 daughters would like to be there to see the PIR and then our SR afterward. Is that possible? I should add that my husband, brother, and I are the 3 guests. My daughters would be in addition to that. I originally thought they would have to stay at the hotel and watch the live stream via computer but it would be even better if they could be there.

Thank you CatMom for the information on the Challenge Coins.  If I give this to my SR while on Liberty, can he take it back to GL or do I have to give it to him at the airport when he ships out to A school?

For those of you looking for a special gift for your SR-soon-to-be-Sailor, I got a couple of these Challenge Coins for my Sailor daughter when she graduated PIR last year, please check out www.pirgifts.com. Challenge Coins are a military tradition.  Craig, who is one of the veterans on Navy for Moms, designed the ones that are connected to the ships at RTC.  The name of your SR's ship is right next to the ship number in the Discussion Forum.  When you click on one of the coins, you will be taken to a page where there is a video about Challenge Coins.  This would be a special gift especially connected to their Boot Camp days!  Another really sharp coin is the Core Value one--it has cut outs and a diamond cut beveled edge.  These coins are no longer given out by the Navy to the Sailors, so it is up to friends and famiily. My Sailor daughter thought her USS Hopper (Ship 03) coin was "cool."

Just a reminder for anyone who has not booked flights yet.  Southwest charges no change fee (only the difference in fare if there is one), just in case your SR gets delayed in training for any reason.  Also, 2 bags check for free!  They fly into Milwaukee WI (45 min drive to GL, no traffic, cheaper car rental) and Chicago-Midway (hour+ to GL depending on traffic).

Sorry, LoriM.  I misunderstood that and just wanted to make sure that others with children that young didn't think that they had to have a DMV pik of their child, in case they read it as I did.  Thanks for clarifying!

Davis Mema,, I suggested the dmv picture just because you mentioned if someone grabbed him,, it is good to have new picture every 6 months or so with kids, just in case... sad we have to feel that way.  However, I do NOT think that will happen on the base no matter how busy.  I should have added that is was not necessary, I thought the way I worded it would lend to that but I guess it did not.

Davis Mema:  Here is the link to the RTC Family Guide.  Scroll down to the part in RED that speaks of the ID needed:

Davis Mema:  No problem, you do not need the DMV photo ID for your 5 yr old.  The birth certificate and/or SS card and his school card should be enough.  RTC is not expecting children that young to have photo ID.  We have been asked this in the past and no one has had a problem getting these young children in without photo ID, as long as they have the other forms of ID I mentioned.

Good Morning All !
