Good Morning!
For anyone staying at the Ramada, please check out TripAdvisor.com for reviews first. We have had some bad reviews on this hotel from people who stayed there in the past. But monica's post, from the 10/31 PIR group, is scary! Here it is:
went to my sons PIR this week! loved seeing my son... do NOT recommend staying at the Ramada in Waukegan! we woke up this morning to find not one but THREE bullet holes in our rental car
Kimberly: Yes, he had Leave, but had been using it to go see a gf in TX instead! :-)
Happy Birthday to yoru SR son, Barbie!
Also, during A school, leave can only be used during Stand Down when 1/2 the base can leave during Christmas week and the other 1/2 during New Year's week. Otherwise, if a Sailor has a really long A school, then leave can only be used after A school is completed. Some can't use leave until after C school~~
Kimberly68,
Our Sailors do get 30 days of leave a year, but depending on deployment assignments and the fact that Sailors pay for their own airfare, it's a juggling act to see family~~ Most can't see their family for both Thanksgiving and Christmas in the same year...
Good Day!
"For we are His workmanship,
created in Christ Jesus for good works,
which God prepared beforehand
that we should walk in them."
Ephesians 2:10
Good Afternoon~
Happy Birthday to your SR, Barbie! When my son went to BC, he missed Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, etc....then his birthday when in A School. The first holiday he got to celebrate with us again was Christmas, over a year after he went in. I so hated that he had missed our extended family Thanksgiving 2 yrs in a row that when he was going to miss the 3rd one, I decided to fly up there and celebrate with him (we had fun exploring Williamsburg VA near his base!). I hadn't seen him in almost a year so it was a good visit. Where there's a will, there's a way! It is hard when they miss so much time with extended family.
It's been a few days since I've been on here how's everyone doing?
My SR in ship 2 div 904 called me last night and it was wonderful, he had ot call his family as well but I got 19 whole minutes this time :] I wasn't even expecting the call and I didn't bother to ask why he called I was just happy.
I also recieved his personal letters on Thursday. 6 total! He said he was writing in the dark because I guess he wasn't supposed to be writing yet :p It was so nice to hear from him, he said his friends and his bunk mate are cool but some of the other guys are talking back to the AROC and MAA so he's upset at them because they have to do a lot of ITE because of them. But besides that they are coming together as a team, he only mentioned the guys so not sure how the girls are doing. It's nice to actually have contact now, makes it seem like he's not so far away. Now if only his parents would communicate travel plans that would be great. I'm on the list for PIR and they already booked everything so I guess I'm not flying or staying with them.... :/
Hope everyone has a good weekend!
