LOL, Live Ashores, the married ones who live off base.

When I as in Great Lakes, in A school, the women were on the second floor of the barracks next door to ET A school and the chow hall. The BE/E were on the first floor (you will know it as ATT now). The Marines were on the third floor. There are four stairwells, three are secured with wire seals which can be broken easily. One evening, the south door broke open and six Marines, with bags over their heads, in their socks and skivvies, ran through our halls shouting BOOYAH!!!! I laughed, it was hilarious. The COC was not amused. The Marines, even the female Marines who lived on our floor, even the Lie Ashores, all did extra duty, extra OT, extra watches, and had their liberty cancelled until the other Marines gave them up. Finally one confessed so his shipmates would no longer be punished.

But it was funny.... just not to the ones being punished.

Thanks Anti M. I feel better knowing that A's PIR isn't in danger, at least for that reason. But, I am not feeling very good about not getting a phone call today. :( Before the prank, he said he would call on Tuesday. I guess they took that away from his div.

I was talking to my nephew today, his boot camp experience is much fresher than mine. He just finished prototype, so has been in for just over two years. He agreed, it is a motivational tool. He did laugh a bit.

dang it is hard to type with a cat under my chin!

I don't know Anti M I for one think the story about the Marines in their long underwear in the women's barracks might be a story worth hearing...it certainly brought a smile to this face...lol!! However I do agree with you that they are surely giving them an incentive for someone to tell "who don it". That kind of prank is funny in high school, not so funny in boot camp. I wouldn't worry just yet Steve's mom about them getting set back. Here is what I do know. There are a few times in the Navy that recruits do get a call home. One is if they get ASMO'd. This is assignment memorandum and means they are being put back at least a week. You have not gotten this call I take it. It comes from the recruit in the RDCs office. So, don't tell your recruit that, because we need to support the RDCs. They need to know "who the wise guy was" becasue that kind of behavior can not happen out on the fleet. Just rest assured that as Anti M said, in all liklihood it is a motivational too.

Illini...he will earn leave...and you can go there and visit. If you know what his rate is then visit that A-school group online and see what the wait is. But be prepared, there is a wait. The Navy is overmanned and there is nothing we can do about it. It is what it is. I don't mean to sound callous because I miss my son, but this is the life he has chosen and I have to support him in that. My son't A-school is 4 weeks. He will be done in april or May. That's life and that is why this site is so important because here you will find others learning to cope with the same kind of frustration about "not knowing" just like you. Good Luck and we will be here to support you!

Now Anti M...about that story.....lol

lllinibeam, My daughter's Navy bf is stationed in Hawaii. She is also a college student and lives in New Mexico. They only get to see each other every couple of months and I know how much she misses him. They seem to make it work wonderfully. The time that they do have together is even all the more special to
both of them. All you can do, is make the most of the time that you do have with each other, when you are able to see each other. Just think, once BC is over, he can Skype and call you frequently. ((Hugs))

lllinibean: Also, they many times are in "hold" status when arriving at A School (may not class up for a while). And they can be in hold status at the end too...waiting on orders. My son classed up 10 days after he arrived, but was in hold for almost 4 weeks after graduation waiting on orders. So like Anti M said, no guarantees.

Better get used to being without your salior for long periods of time! Hard, but this is the "strength" of a military significant other/wife/hubby during periods of deployment, etc. So consider this PRACTICE for you!

Good Morning, Ladies.

Hi Steve's mom, I'm so sorry to hear about the incident yesterday. I hope someone fesses up soon, so they can all get back on track. I was told by my son, that he could call today, so I'm hoping that they get that privilege back.

Dianne, thanks for tip about the coats. Since I live in New Mexico now, my coats aren't as cold friendly anymore. I'll check it out.

30 days and counting down now ladies! WooHoo!

Often they think they will be at A-school for a certain number of weeks. That is because they have been told how many weeks the school is. Sadly it doesn't work like that. When they get to a new base they have to go through different things before their school actually starts. They have to go through in-doc which teaches them about the rules at that base, what they can and cannot do, where they can and cannot go etc. The rules are different for each base. After they go through this process they have to wait on the next set of classes to begin and they may have to wait a while. The class has a certain number of days that is required to complete it. If the class has 20 days of class instruction it usually takes about a month to complete but it can take longer especially around the holidays. And depending on the sailors rate there can be different classes or school they have to do also. Here is an example. For someone who is an AO: A-school is in Pensacola, they go through in-doc, ATT and AWAT classes. These classes help decrease the amount of downtime for sailors while they are waiting to class-up. Then they have 32 days of A-school classes. Depending on their class rank they pick whether they will be ships company, squadron, or hanger. (They don't always get what they want and hanger I don't have much info about that). If they are ships company they stay in Pensacola for more classes called Strand (I think about 3 weeks), if they are Squadron the go to CA or VA for c-school which is 27 days of class. But they are at a new base and have to go through in-doc and wait once again for classes to start. Some rates have much longer class time. One thing for sure is there is a lot of Hurry up and wait in the Navy. Just because someone says a-school will be 4 weeks that doesn't mean they will only be at that base for 4 weeks. I hope this helps and isn't too confusing.

His A school won't even start until January, all schools shut down over Christmas. So that's six to seven weeks right there.
