Good morning all, it is good to see you all are getting word. I was excited to recieve my first letter yesterday, My son is the mail PO for the division so he gets to know everyones names when he passes out the mail. He says he is doing pretty good. The food isn't too bad, he had Catfish one night, and being from Florida he loves catfish. It didn't make him so homesick at that moment. it's amazing how a meal warms the heart. I hope your son's and daughters are doing well, god bless them all !

I recall that about boot camp, even for those of us who'd been away from home before, the first two or three weeks were a huge adjustment in a thousand ways. I was a little older, I'd lived overseas and I hadn't lived at home for several years, so I wasn't as down as the younger girls who had never even slept over at a friend's house. Most of them pick up and perk up and that's when the divisions really start working as a team. In many ways, the division becomes a family-like unit. Not that is ever can replace family, but the bond with shipmates can be quite strong. And we always love our mommas!

Lori, If I'm not at the grocery store by then, I'll try to get on here.

I think Dianne is right. I also try to remind myself that he wrote the letter at least 4 days before I got it too. Those 4 days can make a big difference in their attitudes. They are very emotional and exhausted when they are writing the letters and I'm sure a flood of feelings come out in them. I would think that during the day, they are so busy, that they don't even have time to think about being homesick. This is what I am holding onto. We are almost at the week 3 and they they only have 4 more to go, so I think the time for them and for us, will move more quickly now. I'm trying to think on that now. Each day that they are there, is one more closer to home.

Chin up ladies...those first letters and phone calls, although greatly needed and appreciated, can be very hard emotionally. Just know that most all of them go through this (although some may not own up to it!)...and it does get much better as bc goes along. My son never seemed to be homesick once he got to A School, by the way...he loved it there....so better days will be here soon!

Wendi that was what it was like for my son. When he told me - I cried to. It is hard to watch them be homesick and lonely. My son is not as out going and does not make friends well. So this has been crazy for him.

Oh Wendi, I am so sorry. My daughter did the same thing. It was over an hour before I could read past the first line that said she cried herself to sleep. The next letter was better and by the 4th week she actually liked it and said the RDC's had started to appear human lol. It will get better, I promise.
