OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

There's a reason I post pictures of my dad and myself in uniform, but you won't see my nephew or his name. He just doesn't want the info out there forever. Yes, the internet is forever.

What Lynne is talking about is called "PERSEC" or personal security. Anyone in the world can read our info, put it together, and use it. Not to scare anyone, but please take the precautions which are available to you and you feel most comfortable about.

Okay I am on a roll today...please try to keep your recruits first and or last name out of your screen name and their picture out of your screen picture. You see they are trying to fly "under the radar" at boot camp and RDCs can and do read these sites and while we know they have our recruits best interests at heart...our recruits would prefer they know as little about them as possible...lol. In addition, please remember to set your page to private in order to protect your recruit and any pictures you might have on that page...so that only your friends will see them!!!

This might sound over cautious...but trust me...in my PIR group...one mom didn't believe me until her son called home and told her the RDC said "Your mommy is worried about her little boy." He was so embarrassed. I am "sure" that RDC had the best of intentions but just saying....besides this gives you good practice for when your sailors are in the fleet and the practice of protecting certain information is much more important!!

I just did an update on the Longest Distance contest - the Californians are winning! The shortest distance traveler is still me, coming from Michigan and the contestant nearest the middle without going over is Dana!
