While they are supposed to travel in uniform, I'd think, from experience, that if you got a good distance from the base and he changed in a bathroom somewhere, that no one would be the wiser. wink wink. I could change in the back seat of a cab un under five minutes. But I didn't say that.

Be SURE to bring a hanging bag to store the uniform and all of his thing such as shoes. I've seen more than once a new sailor going off on PIR weekend and leaving their shoes in the hotel room or their coat on the train. Have an inspection before you return them.

This should be a letter week ladies! Let us know if you received one today. I know I'll be running home to check my mailbox! There's a discussion group above to share letter details if you wish.

Thanks, Anti M for the answer to my question - - much, much appreciated. I am going to pass the info to his girlfriend. I certainly don't want to see them separated for three years! Looks like a Christmas wedding :) Again, thanks for the info.

Susan- we will have to compare notes on the travel home. We too are traveling by van and my younger kids get a bit messy on long car rides we will be in the car about 15 hours, should be interesting, lol!!!

Paternity is ten days leave granted to a married service member, at the convenience of his command. It can be granted anytime during the 365 days after the birth of the baby. This does not mean he can get leave for the birth of the baby. It might mean he can get those ten days in March. Seems reasonable to me, but I don't make the decisions. He must ask PSD. Also it is AFTER the birth, not for the birth. Crazy.

He could get married over Christmas, in fact, if they are going to marry, sooner is better than later if she ever wants to move with him. She will not be on the orders if she isn't married to him at least four weeks before he receives orders. He could end up in Japan without her for three years, and the Navy will not pay for her move stateside if that is where he is stationed. He is supposed to ask permission (always approved) and go through counseling, but honestly, he could marry without consequence at Christmas if there's a baby on the way. That way, Tricare would pay for the medical expenses of the birth, and the baby's neonatal and well baby checks.

They will tell them not to go get married, but I'm 99.99999% sure he'll have no problems if he presents himself as a responsible father.

My son's girlfriend is having a baby in March. Before he uses up all of his time by coming home over Christmas, I want to make sure he will be able to get a leave after A-School to come see his baby. His recruiter told me he would be able to take "baby" leave. I read on line that that was only if you were married. Does he have to get married over this Christmas leave? I can't seem to get a straight answer on this. I have a feeling we are going to be having a quick Christmas wedding ! Any information would be greatly, greatly appreciated. I can't let him come home for Christmas if it means he won't be able to come home in March. Thanks.

When writing your letters ask your recruit if there is anyone in their division who is not getting any mail. There are some recruits who have no one to support them through this journey and you may be able to write them a letter of encouragement and help them more than you know. They may even write you back. :-) And if you haven't done so already you can send them a few pics. Just keep them nice because others will see them including the RDC's.

Susan, I say...your sailor should get the "shotgun" seat in the car! For uniform cleanliness! :-)

I figured as much. I will have to tell the other kids to be careful and not spill anything on him, lol :)

Susan, PAO said that "the recruit will know the rules, but bottom line is they will have to be in uniform at all times".
