Kathy, should I try to get in the chat room now?
Comment by Nancy on October 29, 2010 at 10:30am
Kathy-I'm up now. I like how you got the chat room in. I like the discussion forum too... Now we need to figure out how to get on. I will play around with it, and Lala Ribbon Queen is there, so she can tell us too.

LLRQ-thanks for your offers of help and ribbons!! I'm sure we will have questions during this process.

Hi Betsy, if I had known you were still here last night I would have stayed around a while. I got the chat up but I don't know if it works and I am still trying to figure out how to put the weather and also get the countdown up there. I am sure once everything is in place it will be great. Please let us know when you get the ship and div numbers. Hugs. K

I think the wait in Pensacola may depend on what their rate it. My Ao didn't wait long at all, less than 2 weeks I think. She graduated A-school exactly 2 months after PIR.

Oops, Kathy. I guess you posted while I was typing. Good morning and I wanted to thank you for putting together this group and the other one. :)

Good morning ladies. Wow, Nancy you were pretty busy last night. lol I forgot that you were in CA. I'm in NM, so I am a late nighter too. Don't worry, you won't be alone on here.
LalaRibbonQueen, thank you so much for all your wonderful input. I have been on here a few months, but am still finding my way around. It sounds like your daughter has had quite a year. Congrats on your new son in law.
Wendi, when we start the chat, you will see, it's pretty easy. If I can do it, trust me, anyone can. lol
Susan, thanks, when I get his division, I'll definetely check with you on how to address everything.
I was reading through some posts on boot camp moms, I think, and I saw where some kids who went to Pensacola had to wait awhile for their A school. Now I have something else to worry about. :(
I have Safelite coming to look at my son's car this morning, (it was broken into when he lived near the campus of Univ. of NM, nice city, huh?) but I am planting myself in the recruiter's office today and I'm going to tell them that I won't leave there until I have A's infor. Watch me! lol

Ok, I put the chat in but I am not to sure how to customize it so it is still a work in progress. Everyone remember this chat is not private so be careful what you say on it. Be very general and definitely no names. If I can make it private I will. Love to all, Kathy

LOL Kathy I just realized what I did! 12/20 is my anniversary and I typed that date and didn't realize it :) I'm not a morning person, can you tell??? Great job on getting the group set up! Susan

Help, stop the world, I want to get off, lol. Good morning friends. Thanks everyone for your input and I am going to go check out the other pir groups and get the show on the road this weekend. I love the idea of a chat, countdown clock(after official pir given), weather forecast, and whatever else we need.

Susan, lol, It says 12/10/2010. Jessica thinks it might be this date but if it is 12/17/2010 I can just change the Title. Hugs, K

Good Morning everyone, I wanted to welcome you all to N4M's. I hope you all like amusement parks lol, because this is a roller-coaster ride. There are a few of us moms who have been on this site for a few months or longer who join the new group to help them get answers to the many questions they will have. If you have any questions please let me know, you can also add me as a friend and ask questions through a message.
About me: I have a Sailor (daughter) who in an AO, attached to a squadron. She starts c-school next week. She was in the performing division (choir) in bootcamp, she was a Grad n Go and was on a chartered flight to Pensacola for A-school. She dated a young man she met in DEP, got engageed right after boot camp and got married during A-school to her fiancee 4 days before he left for Boot Camp in Sept. (They kept this a secret until this week), Her husband should be having PIR right now/today but, unfortunately, his sister was killed in a car wreck and he came home right after the capping ceremony to be with his family. I have learned so much from this site, it has been my lifeline for sure. I know you will lots of questions so feel free to ask. If I don't know the answer I will try to help you find it. And if you have been checking out some of the other PIR groups you have probably heard something about ribbons to wear to PIR. I am the person who makes ribbons for anyone on this site who wants them to wear to PIR. They are a great way to show your support and also make it easy to recognize other Navy4Mom members.

My best advice for you at the beginning of this journey is to write letters to your SR. Even if you think, or they told you they don't care about letters, write, write, write. They live for mail call. The letters are their only connections to home and the outside world. They won't start getting them or be able to write for the first couple of weeks but you can still write every day and then send several in one envelope when you get the address. This is an incredible journey and the time will seem to crawl but then all of a sudden you will be packing for PIR and you will wonder how the time passed so quickly. Ask as many questions as you have, there is no such thing as a dumb question. Have a GREAT weekend :-)
