The red cords are ceremonial, and identify sailors with special responsibilities such as the RCPO.

from wikipedia:

A red aiguillette is worn on the left shoulder by United States Navy Recruit Division commanders, whereas a blue aiguillette is worn by Recruit Division commanders in training, Recruit Division commanders wearing these are referred colloquially as "red ropes" and "blue ropes" respectively.

When you go to the Meet & Greet and PIR, there will be many more people there than just us NavyForMoms. We are all wearing the pink scarf to set ourselves out from the crowd as the awesome and wonderful NavyForMoms that we are.

Wearing the red shirt is to support all of the troops and our newest sailors every Friday in December.

Anti M, you are a hoot and if we happen to get in trouble, don't worry, mums the word. lol

I got a letter today and she told me they will be performing at the 12/03/10 PIR.
I hope they take lots of pictures. Maybe we can see our SR!!!

Anti M what do the red cords in the pictures of the other graduations mean?
Thanks,
Karen

Maria, The "RED" is to support all the troops that are deployed and to honor and support our NEW SAILORS on their PIR. It was my goal to get all in the stands to wear some form of read...forgetting that the scarf idea had come out earlier to identify this group of mom's. I will be wearing red, and a pink scarf...I love all of you lots, you get me through each and every day...but the RED goes much deeper for me to support and Remember Everyone Deployed at this time...RED on Fridays has been going on for a few years to show your support for our troops, our SR just happen to be graduating on a Friday so I thought it would be such an honor for me to show my support in/at such a big venue! You can do what you wish, I do hope you support me and the troops and Wear Red on Friday the 17th :) (just a mom on a mission lol), and a pink scarf ;-)!

To add to Anti M's advice to not LOSE the LEAVE Papers....when my son came home after A School with his orders, I immediately made a copy of them...just in case!

Betsy, I think you are correct in wearing civilian clothes when home for Christmas...but like you said, uniform is a must for travel from RTC and then to A School.
