Oh, DUH, Dianne! Sorry...forgot about the Christmas visit! They should be able to arrive at A School with them...he would just need to have it in a black plain backpack (with any other personal items he is taking.)

Thanks Dianne. But if they are leaving from home at Christmas, they can't take it with them to A school. I would have to send it to him?
Comment by diannep on November 29, 2010 at 11:19am
Betsy: They can definitely have it there. They can only take it with them if they are GradNGo and family meets them at the airport with it or if staying in GL....they can have it once on A School base (whether delivered by family to them if GradNGo to GL or stored in a locker there until they can get it).

Lynne, thank you so much for the information.

Donna, they should send you a confirmation e-mail when they receive it.

Thanks, Dianne that is a good idea. Do you know if they are allowed to take a laptop with them to A school? I hope so.

MarylandMom: Call the Public Affairs Office and get a number for the Scheduling office:
847-688-2405 (PAO)
Don't worry...they are very helpful up there!

You all may want to consider gift cards and cash for Christmas gifts this year. Even with your sailors home from bc, they will have limited space in A School and even when stationed to store "stuff." Maybe give them cards for their favorite stores so they can buy later...or cash works for everything! When stationed, they are still limited on space unless they are living off base (most don't and aren't allowed yet...unless married). Just a thought!

Hi Everyone !! Hope you all have a great Monday !! I have an issue I need some help with !! S finally told me he had plane ticket for A school done. I needed to send itinerary for driving home after PIR. Well, I was out of town over weekend. Today I went to mapquest and did directions. Printed them out (thinking I was to fax them in ). Realized they were to be emailed !! So I copied address from form and sent them. Email comes back as invalid. I then came onto our group site and copied and pasted same address to email. This time it looks like it went. Question is, Is there some way I can confirm that info truly was received at the scheduling office ? Thanks for your help, I think I may just be freaking myself out !!

Like Jessica said just be prepared that you may have an interview...funny story from my PIR group...the Friday before Halloween...yep you guessed it...one of my moms...dressed up in all her glory as a the wicked witch at work had a man approach her and said "Mam I need to ask you a few questions about your son.,," She was like"really, really...now". And is where the intervew went down...she laughed so hard writing that letter to her son...lol!! Funnier yet, the FBI didn't even crack a smile...he just carried on like he wasn't talking to someone wearing black facial paint and green lipstick...too funny!!

someone asked about the train to chicago...it's literally at gate 3 of main base...you can see PIR hall on RTC base from station as well. It cost $7 round trip and took about 45minites...not bad at all! It drops u off downtown where it's about 20minute walk or 5minute taxi ride to magnificent mile shopping district. Navy Pier is about 10minute, $10(including tip) taxi ride...very easy!!!!
