OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

*stayed at these.....

We stayed at Residence and liked it.  If driving up, you can bring your dog(s) with you to see your SR!

Lkeej:  The best thing to do about the hotels is to google Great Lakes area hotels (Waukegan/Gurnee area too).  Then if you find one you like, check it out on www.TripAdvisor.com for reviews.  Most of these reviews are posted by Navy families.  Ones we know about that are good are:  Springhill Suites, Courtyard, Holiday Inn Express and Residence Inn.  Great reviews on these hotels.  Many have stayed at this and liked it.

Very good point, Sonia.  Bootcamp is emotionally up and down for them, changing all of the time!

Good morning! Just remember moms that by time we get their letters and they say they're having a bad day that they wrote that letter a week or more ago and things have flipped around by now and they're doing much better. :)

Yep, hear ya, Jackie.  I too was an empty nester when my son went into the Navy...since my older son moved out 2 weeks earlier.  Sigh....so I get it....just know it DOES get better but it is an adjustment for a while.  Since we are used to "serving" our families, with all gone from our homes....what to do?  I remember crying in the grocery store the first time as I bought just for myself and my dogs for the first time in years....just didn't feel right....by the time I got used to my empty nest, my older son had to move back home (21 mos later) due to a short-sale of the condo he was renting....Now....I have a house full of 5 people, including a 2 yr old grandson....so you never know.  We have to remain flexible, right?

My older son is Air Force, he thinks that all my worrying is silly. I don't know that he will ever understand. This is my youngest, I am newly an empty nester. I just need a minute to adjust to this all.

Still no contact from my 06/44 either. Glad to hear of someone getting their wisdom teeth out and doing fine. That was one of my worries.
