OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Div 39 - Hooray, received Thanksgiving form and first batch of personal letters. Letters postmarked 10/28...weird as son mentions mailing them 10/26. We live quite close to RTC and letters still took until Friday to arrive, so others who live further out may still receive letters tomorrow from last Sunday. Best wishes to all! Son sounds overwhelmed and homesick, but managing. He says the food is good and plentiful and that it feels really strange having a shaved head! 26 days until Thanksgiving!

Hi Joni and Sellyztackz - my son is also in 6/040.

ProudNavyMom also has an SR in 6/040!

I have not received anything yet either (other than "the box" and form letter).  I'm sure they have been super busy and if your boys are anything like mine if he has a choice between a few extra minutes of shut eye vs writing to his mom - no doubt he will chose the shut eye!!!

My oldest son is also a sailor, he was in bc 6 years ago.  I knew he would never write. I sent him fill in the blank, multiple choice form letters in self addressed envelope - that worked well and i actually got some of my questions answered!!!  My youngest son who is there - said "mom - really? i'm not 10"  We shall see - and I've sent him a form letter too!!  :)

Hang in there ladies - it will be December before we know it.
