N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Southwest flies into Midway and Milwaukee.  Milwaukee is further in miles, but shorter in drive time by anywhere from 20 -30 min because of no traffic.  Car rental is cheaper there too.

mtg4life:  Yes, you can take a taxi over to pick up your sailor.

NCNavymom Christmas is a big concern for me too. So much conflicting information about whether or not they can take leave after checking in at A School and then whether or not they can actually leave the area. Like you said, gotta get used to the Navy life again...it's been a while for me since my husband was in.
I don't know that I would send anything before actually receiving the form letter from your sailor. Care packages are a no-no but you can send cards, pictures or a small Bible and/or small address book for your sailor. No cash and no food or gum/candy. I would say just use common sense with that stuff.
Southwest flies to Midway...just wish I knew what airport he will be flying out of to A School. Won't know until graduation day I guess.

Thank you so much diabbep.  One more question (sorry) when you say pick him up, I won't have a car can we go over in a taxi or shuttle ?

No care pkgs allowed at Bootcamp!  Don't make that mistake.  My son was there from Thanksgiving Week until early Feb 6 yrs ago.  Someone sent him a care pkg of Christmas goodies.....directly from a vendor in TX ( we live in FL)....no name included in the box.  The RDCs grilled him....who is this from, who sent this, etc....he had no clue!  Nor do any of us to this day.  Thankfully he didn't get IT for it (but some do)....but it was taken from him and he saw the RDCs enjoying the goodies in their office later!

mtg4life:  Since yours is staying in A School there in GL, you will have to wait after PIR while he moves with the group over to that base.  Takes a few hours and then you pick your new sailor up over there.  You have until about 8 or 9 pm with him, and then he must return to base.  BUT....you get to pick him up again Sat. and Sun. mornings and keep him until that evening!  No overnights after Bootcamp area allowed, but lots of daytime and early evening hours!

Also, the bases will be getting ready to go on Christmas Stand Down so there is an excellent chance that your new sailor will be able to come home just a couple of weeks later on Leave!   He will find out about that after going through INDOC at A School when he arrives there.
