OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

I am new to this group.  My son left for BC on 11/15 from Sacramento.  Got his box on Tuesday.  Couldn't believe how quick we got it!!! Never thought I would enjoy the smell of his laundry!!!  Still haven't got the letter but my husband got the details of his PIR from the recruiter.  So glad to have this site.  Thanks so much for all the info.

Thanks for the great info diannep!! I just booked Thurs and Fri at The Navy Lodge.

Comment by diannep on October 23, 2015 at 12:42pm

Beth:  Navy Lodge is a good choice....reasonable prices, close to RTC, great staff, simple but clean accommodations, some with kitchenettes.  Other hotels we can recommend are:

Springhill Suites, Holiday Inn Express, Residence Inn, Courtyard....all in the Waukegan/Gurnee area, 4-5 miles from RTC, near Sarge's MeetandGreet held for you the night before PIR.  Call these hotels directly and ask what their Grad rate is....then compare to other discounts you may have.

We also advise all to check out hotels of interest on"

www.tripadvisor.com

The reviews there are usually by Navy families.

As far as staying in GL or Chicago on PIR night...Since she is flying out, that probably will take place late that night/early morning ....being bussed to the airport then but waiting for flights during Sat.  You can meet your sailor there and wait with her.  Take ID!  Occasionally they do not fly out until Sunday though....so it is a hard call....most will go on Sat.  It would be nice to have the hotel room on PIR day for your new sailor to relax in so I'm thinking you may want to keep the GL room for that day/night.  Then change the next day.  Just a thought....FTLW may have much better ideas!
