Thank you all so much for all the adviceand help you have given. Even though I will not be attending the PIR; I have been able to let my daughter and her boyfriends parents (SR parents) know and what to expect. I am praying for safe travels for each of you and hug your Sailors tight!
You gals are so sweet!! You're all welcome!!
Good Day!

name of the Lord! Peace in Heaven and
glory to the highest!"

I haven't posted much, but I certainly have received some great information, ideas, and support over the past few weeks. THANKS to all of the 'veteran mom's for what you offer; this is a great site! I look forward to the next phase in the journey - but not quite as much as I look forward to seeing my young man on Friday. Very excited and nervous as we are still awaiting our 'sailor call'.
I am so thankful for everyone here. It is so helpful for all of us newbies. :) I am really looking forward to this whole experience. I can hardly wait to see my boy. I really appreciate all of the information about PIR and what to expect. Thanks again!!!
...and....you are very welcome! We all love helping on these groups!
SoCalNukeMom: I just sent you some info in a friend request. Don't hit ACCEPT or the info goes away! :-)
navygirlfriend11,
Your SR boyfriend won't find out where his first duty station will be until approximately 3 weeks before his A school will be finished. It comes as a verbal first, as diannep said, then will become hardcopy orders closer to graduation. Here's the A school group in Pensacola that will provide you with lots of help!
Photo-ops:
You may start taking Pictures as soon as you enter the Visitors Center. There are museum like displays along the way to the Security Checkpoint.
Then you may also take pictures inside of Midway Ceremonial Drill Hall. Take a few practice shots before the Ceremony as they can come out dark. I think it's all that grey paint LOL.
These are the only two places that you may take pictures while onboard RTC. It is not permitted anywhere else.
**Side-bar :There is also no smoking while onboard RTC.
A few little tips for PIR:
The metal benches are cold. I brought a shawl to cover up with or sit on. I sat on it because that cold just seeps into your body!
Don't set anything down on the bench that is thin like a camera, cell phone, etc. The floors of the bleachers are solid except underneath the seats there are openings just wide enough and about a foot (?) long for modern day devices to fall through...it is like a black hole...you won't get it back.
I used carabiners on my purse to attach things too. Don't forget binos if you have them! Wal-Mart sells them.
Oh and they sell the Sailors hat (mens style), aka lid, aka "dixie cup" in a kiddie size for $5. They'll want to wear mommy's or daddy's hat and this is not allowed.
