navygirlfriend:  Your sailor will receive his duty station orders while in A School....usually "verbal" first with "written" shortly after that.  If he is top of his class, he has a choice in where he goes (depending on Navy's needs, of course!).  My son's class was delayed in getting orders when he was there and many were stuck on base there for several weeks after completing A School, but that is not always the case, although there can be a small delay between graduation and final (written) orders being issued.  They get Leave before they report to their duty stations usually.  The Navy pays for their way from A School to duty station....any deviation to go on Leave first  is on the sailor's "dime" but it works and only costs $30 to change the flights (at least when my son was there in 2010).

Good Morning!

navygirlfriend11 - Ummm, so I don't read so good that early in the AM I guess:-/

This is what you asked and I answered it incorrectly...sparking off more answers to mine. So sorry:

"Does anyone know where my boyfriend will go after A school? Or does only he know that."

So NOW veterean Moms respond to that one as I can't...mine is a reservist and came home after A school and reported to his NOSC - Navy Operational Support Center.

...but the "short" of it is....rating is their "job."

So read the page I provided the link to, study it....there WILL be a test!  HAA!

navygirlfriend:  Here is a page to explain it, because it can be confusing!

What exactly does rating mean? He's going to A school in Pensacola, Florida after basic.
