Interested in comments from any other families, in addition to My2kidz who had to cancel Navy Lodge reservations yesterday because they were informed that they sailors who had moved over to the GL A School couldn't visit Navy Lodge....no chits issued for them from A School (their call for these sailors).  We want to inform future PIR groups that this is a possibility.  Don't want to trash Navy Lodge, as I know it is great, but not sure parents can risk not being able to have their GL A School sailors visiting them in their rooms.   Hoping you can give us more details on what happened.  Thanks!

Thanks for informing us, My3kidz.  I know that Navy Lodge is wonderful but am asking those with sailors staying in A School to private message me....on future groups.  I want to let them know this is a possibility and then they can decide if they want to stay there.  We have heard before that when "Top Brass" is in town and staying at the Lodge, sailors are not allowed in the hotel.  But how to know when that will happen????  Don't think it affects those with sailors flying out for A School....at least, we have not heard that.  When I contacted RTC about this when it happened before, they acted like they weren't aware of this and wanted division numbers being told that they couldn't see family in Navy Lodge.  Hmmmm......

Personally, I wouldn't want to take a chance if I had a sailor at A School there.  Who needs that kind of hassle?  And sometimes other hotels book up so that could have been bad when you and the others were changing if you found it hard to find another place (this happenes more often when Six Flags is open nearby .... local hotels seem to book up).  I wish Navy Lodge would be forthcoming with us that this could happen, but when families have contacted staff there, they don't act like they know much.  The orders are from the Navy, not them....so they don't have any say.

No reason was given. It is quite sad because the Navy Lodge is great. The staff here is great and it I'd wonderful being so close to base. It was especially vexing because the place was full of recruits:( But orders are orders and I think it is best to learn to be flexible early on. This shouldn't put people off staying at the Lodge. It is wonderful. Just be aware that if your Sailor is staying on at GL this could happen. We are just so happy now that nothing can bring us down :)So proud of my son and the other graduates.

Oh, this is sad to hear...Navy Lodge is such a nice, inexpensive place too....  :(

*they are NOT allowed.....

Comment by diannep on December 13, 2014 at 12:46am

Myekidz:  Wow....did the GL A School sailors say WHY they couldn't visit there?  We had heard this once before, a few weeks back, but not other times.  I guess we had better mention this to future groups...it should only affect A School students staying in GL....I don't really understand this....but think it has to do with them being "students" as of today and they are no allowed in the Navy hotels normally when students.  So sorry for Navy Lodge as this will cost them business, but we don't want families unable to have their sailors visit in their rooms.

Thanks FTLW and diannep. Today was wonderful and we couldn't be more excited except for one snag. The Sailors checking in to A school here in GL were expressly told they couldn't visit the Navy Lodge. No exceptions or chits. We are changing hotels as are many other families. No one knows why but I would warn future families whose sailors are staying in GL for A school to at least be aware of this happening.
