~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Supposedly, according to My Son in 906, there are pictures of them here. I have been looking for 2 weeks and can't find any. Anybody have a link or could send me pics. His Mom is stressed and would love to be able to see him!!

8isenuff, Your sailors will most likely have 2 weeks, and maybe a couple extra days, but you never know. All of the A Schools go on stand down during the holidays.

Leave accumulates at the rate of 30 days a year and yes, they can carry up to 60 days (exceptions for more are long term deployment etc). They are encouraged to take their leave if they can.

For sailors in the fleet, if they are not deployed, they will probably have blocks of time during the holidays that they can request leave. Those in the fleet may also have their leave time postponed or cancelled if "duty" calls.

I don't think the dates for stand down have been "formally announced", but it looks to be Dec 20th through Jan 5th.

Good morning, all!  I also have 2 in the NF, have heard from the son in Div 038.   In his most recent letter (he actually gave me a lot of info--very sweet), he indicated the NF in his div met with an instructor who was also a nuke.  He did not give me specific dates or times for A school, but indicated they will be "grad n go."  He said they will be in GC for about 1 week for indoc, then have the option to take Leave for 2-3 weeks.  The instructor was not sure (SR's words).  SR did mention about the negative leave.  After reading about leave somewhere else here, and also knowing Diannep is very knowledgeable about these things, I am inclined to think both of my SRs will be home for Christmas at some point.  I doubt they would be permitted to take 3 weeks, but that seems to be up to the administrators at A school.  I get the idea that the Sailors are highly encouraged to take their Leave when it is offered, as they are only permitted to bank 60 days at a time.  Is that correct?  I will just be thrilled to death to have all of my kids in one spot, all together, even if it is for a short time.  I would be very happy to have them home for 3 weeks, though... Does anyone know the dates for Holiday Stand Down at GC?

*should have said..."having SAILORS in A Schools during Christmas"  They will not be SRs for much longer!  :-)

Comment by diannep on November 22, 2013 at 9:21am

NucMom:  I'm surprised that he knows the actual date he would fly home for Christmas from A School already?  Did he say who told him this?  I would think that is determined by the A Schools....yes, he would have to arrange his own travel home/back for that.  Don't believe he will be home for 3 weeks though.  Most of the time, they are on "hold" at A School for a while before classing up, but he will need to do his "hold" time on the base, not at home.  Plus, they all will be going "into the hole" on their Leave days for this Christmas visit since they have only accumulated about 5 days Leave at the end of bootcamp (2.5 days/mo).  They are allowed to borrow Leave days and their future accumulated Leave will be deducted for this trip to replenish, but very doubtful they would allow them to take 3 weeks of Leave "in the hole."

He won't be able to make his travel arrangements for this until he arrives at A School and gets info there.   When they go on Leave, there are chits involved that have to be completed.  It could be that the date he was given was by an RDC...

So happy that so many of you will have your sailors home for Christmas!  That is one of the extra special perks of those having SRs in A Schools during Christmas.   The next PIR group after this one isn't until 01/04 and so of course, they will not get their SRs home  :-(  I know you all are counting your blessings that you have SRs in this group who are becoming sailors before Christmas!

Good Morning!

I'm pretty sure that mine's coming home and going back via the Mommie Express.  I only live about 5 hours from Nuke School.

Nucmom, I got that type of letter too.  He told me to start looking into airfare, but never told me how long he will be home which makes it hard to buy a round trip ticket.  Although, I have to admit, three weeks would be awfully nice :-)

My son is also headed to SC for nuke on the 14th. His bus leaves at 0100 though...Ugh.  That's okay though...I'll be there with him.

He keeps giving me different information on Christmas so I don't know exactly when he'll be back home and for how long, but I'm pretty sure he has to arrange his own transportation from and back to the base.
