~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

No, Annette.  He will not be allowed another form letter most likely.  HOWEVER, Michael should know the password he wrote in the form letter.  That is the important thing...that allows a gate pass to be printed.  The gate pass only is needed for those driving onto the base.  His dad can take a shuttle to base or park off base at the train station (near the base) and not need this pass.  Most of the other info in the letter we will have for you on this site...

Is it possible for you or someone else to get permission to pick up his held mail?  I'm not sure what the PO policy is for this, but seems to me that would be the best solution to see if the form letter is in there.  But many times, a family member doesn't ever receive the form letter, but successfully attends PIR regardless.  Since you seem like a wonderful family friend watching out for Michael, please ask any questions you have on this site and we will try to answer!

Good Morning All !

Munchkinmom, that sounds like an amazing memory.  :-)  Missing both of my SRs tonight...

Maybe one of you veteran moms can answer this. I think I have seen this discussed on my son's PIR page but here is the problem. My son's friend is in Ship 13 Div 37. His Dad travels. A lot. He has been flying all over Asia almost since his son left. He has his mail held and he might just end up flying from Asia to Chicago come PIR time. Hence, he will not have received the base gate password! I have asked Michael, the SR about this, but have not heard a reply yet, whether he sent it to his Dad or grandparents, or someone else. His Mom is not much of a Mom, sad to say, and not on the scene. Anyway, can he get the info again and send it to me, and I can make sure his Dad gets it?

yes,  I did 8isenuff.  That brings back memories of my SR.  She was maybe 4 or 5.  My two sisters and I took my daughter up to Red Feather Lakes in northern Colorado during the peak of the meteor shower.  This is a small town in the mountains above Fort Collins.  We rented a cabin and at 3 in the morning we blew up an air bed, took it, hot chocolate for the munchkin, added schnapps for us older girls and with many blankets huddled under to sky to watch the stars fly.

Hi Moms, has anyone noticed the shooting stars in the real time weather of Waukegan pictured above?  It is the Leonid meteor shower.  They are beautiful!  It reminded me of the poem, "Starlight, star bright..."  I know what I am wishing for tonight... Hugs to all of you, near and far.  We are in this journey together.

YEs he ate free at Lovell's. The staff (I think Jay Lovell) thanked him for his service and congratulated him. One of my son's BC buddies had gone to lunch there instead of dinner, and had the opportunity to meet Jim Lovell, who likes to stop in to greet, congratulate and thank the sailors. There is a cool room downstairs with a lot of memorabilia from his astronaut days.

HA!  So true, 8isnuff on the HallowThanksMas!  Very sad to me...not a fan of Halloween, but certainly know that Thanksgiving and Christmas have very deep meaning that is being lost in all of the "retail" rush!

On your son's wisdom teeth staying, maybe they will watch them through schooling and decide then.  Or .... maybe his are pretty perfect!  However, my daughter in law has to have her last one out (at 26).  Started having horrible pain in it after the birth of her son....she is not sure why they didn't take that one out originally with the other 3, but I bet now she wished they had....decayed and a mess.  Hoping that your son's teeth stay good!

Good Morning All !

Hi, I don't post often, but ellen0502 and tracy13kids, thanks for the weather update.  I was hoping for a phone call from each of my SRs today.  True confessions:  I'm a worrier, too.  I try not too, but...Son #1 says it is my nature.  Mother Nature. :-)  Also thanks to all for the posts regarding the wisdom teeth removal.  My daughter has to have hers removed, but they are leaving my son's.  A little confusing.  I hope she does well, as she has a bad URI also.

I agree about the Thanksgiving holiday being so overlooked.  I think we have actually invented a new holiday in America.  It is called "HallowThanksMas."

Oh boy, munchkinmom.  Thank goodness you caught that!

Annette:  Did your sailor eat for free at Lovells?  We have heard that the sailors do eat for free.  Just doublechecking.  Others have said Lovells was very good too!
