OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

My SR called his dad and my mom tonight since he called me last weekend. he said he is doing good. Past both his inspections with a 100%. He is a little homesick and is still hoping to come home for Christmas. He went to church again today and said it was really good. I am so proud of my SR.

Thank you so much. It's awesome to have this level of support and to know how many people out there are going through the same thing! And I'm so grateful to have wonderfully supportive in-laws. Both my Fil and mil were sailors (Fil was a nuke just like my SR), and my BIL is currently enlisted, so there is a lot of help and support there. It's so important to have people who understand and empathize with what is going on!

Ah TheWatchGoddess - that breaks my heart! {hugs} to you!  I cannot imagine how you must've felt!  I'm glad however that your inlaws got to hear from him however.  At least you know he's doing well!

I'm a pretty mild person. I might just be leaking tears still though. I feel so incredibly awful. My inlaws assured me that he is doing super well, sounded fantastic, and has a "gpa" or whatever they call it of 4.75 out of 5. And now I just get to calm down, write my nightly letter, and hope he get a chance to call again soon!

@ Thewatchgoddess -- I think your response was pretty mild, considering.  Can totally get how you must have felt.  We went through a similar situation, missing our son's first two calls.  Panic doesn't begin to describe the emotion.  Rest assured, though, that he will do his best to try to contact you again.  Hang in there ... we all get it and are with you.

Well. Crap. I worked my second job today because I had to get in a shift. During holiday season, I only work there enough to stay on the payroll, because my other job takes priority. Anyways, I'm not allowed to carry my phone on me. And it's a big deal, like instant termination if you are caught. And of course my phone wouldn't fit in my bra!
Anyway, I'm heartbroken, I missed my SR's call. Twice. I may have had my first breakdown since my husband left. Thank goodness I shouldn't have to work there again until after PIR! Cause you can bet my phone is going to be on my person from here on out!

I know I can get support here when I hang my phone in a ziplock above the shower. Lol.. My daughter thinks I am being obsessive. I just don't want to miss a call....I like the idea of putting it in my bra at work also!!
