Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

I read a mom from Oregon whose PIR is the same 12/13, but diff ship/division rcvd a written letter yesterday. I had HIGH hopes that I would have a letter waiting for me... since the US Mail would pass my state of AZ to get to Oregon (lol). I had nothing .... still waiting.

How nice for you to be so close to the RTC. Will you be able to visit your SR for Thanksgiving?

I have also rcvd the box & form letter... but no written letter :-( I did not receive the call that he arrived to RTC, He was stressing a bit on who to call; me or his dad. I told him since he had his cell, that I was totally ok with him texting me that he arrived safely. He did make the call to his dad.

Since receiving the form on Monday, I've mailed him 4 letters... lol

Comment by Ship 13 Div 038 on October 31, 2013 at 4:18pm: I read somewhere that during the first few weeks of A school, they are not allowed to go more than 75 miles away from base. We live much farther away than that, will our sailor be able to come home for Christmas?

Comment by nnavek on October 31, 2013 at 4:05pm: @ JudyP and jennifer, my SR son is also on Ship 14 Division 39. I have received the box and form letter. In his phone call letting me know he arrived safely, he stated that he would call again in 3 weeks. So I guess I just wait! I wish I had gotten the form for "adopt a sailor". We live just south of Chicago, so we could go and take care of some sailors :)

Comment by diannep on October 31, 2013 at 3:22pm: Tiffany: Their first mail delivery is usually on a Sunday (mail held while Recruit Mail Petty Officer was trained). After that, they receive mail M-F. But they can only mail out on Mondays.

He said he was just able to call, he said he had just got his security clearance so maybe it had something to do with that. He said one SR had gotten a letter already, I thought they just got mail on Sundays?? I hope you get a call soon.
