OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security)
(Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips)

This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way.

The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

 • Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for your personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

@SkyeA  Yes, it can happen it happened to my son's recruit mate from HS.  He left July 31st,  was put in Navy infirmary Sept 4.  He was shipped home friday night.  He can enlist if he wants to with Dr. Waiver, but otherwise he was given an honorable medical discharge.    My husband says that if you do not have good bone density, this can happen.  He says children today play too many video games and that to have good bone density you need to be active, like we were when we were kids.   I asked his mom how it all happened and she said from all the marching.  He was flat footed too.    :0(   I just feel sorry for him, and his mom.   And..I am just having a bad day all the way around...I don't want to depress everyone.    I would just like a letter or something from him.  However, he is not the type that likes to write.

I am one of those helicoptor moms everyone talks about and usually doesn't  like, but I am having a hard time turning off my helicoptor blades.

I am really down today.  I can't imagine if I was one of those parents who had not received their letter yet.    I have never been away from my son that I was not able to text him or something.   Some days are good, others are bad.   This is a bad day.   I am sure others of you are having the same emotions.    I am especially apprehensive after having one of his hs classmates come home from bootcamp with fractures in feet, knees and hips.    I know I would have heard if something was going on with Jared...but...I just wish I could text him.

Well, if your daughter is in ship 11 div 031, then my son is in div 032.  That's great since that's the address that I used. Thanks for your help ladies. I was concerned that he wouldn't get my letters. It would be so nice to get a phone call just to hear him say he's doing okay and "everything's cool". It'd also be nice to hear that he can come home before going to "A" school in Corey Station.  I guess you can't always get what you want!

diannep - I actually got the idea from another mother here on N4M, so I cannot take the credit....but the cupcakes were a big hit at Rane's party.

Seems to be no Meet & Greet for Sarge on 12/21.  Do you think he might be gone for Christmas then?   Just wondering.   Everyone has made so many comments about it.  Would hate to miss it, if it is happening.

I'm back...on phone. Ha, Ha...that IS what I meant diannep...TY!

Comment by diannep on November 4, 2012 at 3:50pm

Ok, to clarify.  They will house the females from the integrated divisions together and the males from the same divisions together.  I know that is what FTLW meant...but since I'm "old and mentally fuzzy"...well, sometimes  :-)....I don't always interpret things right!  Just didn't want anyone thinking that their daughters are sleeping in same barracks as their male counterparts!
