OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way.

The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for your personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Are these the same ones my son put on his paperwork to his recruiter? I may not have all that info. I didnt realize I would be getting a call for info. any info would be appreciated. Thanks :)

There is the possibility of you receiving a phone call from your SR (Seaman Recruit) during the first one to two weeks after their arrival for Security Clearance info. I received mine one week after my son arrived at RTC. Had no idea it would come that fast. I'd only really been on the site for a week or two, so I had NOTHING ready! So... if your Recruit has a rating that requires security clearance information...800 Divisions, IT's, CTI's CTT's Nukes, AT's (the list goes on!), anyone that handles confidential info...have a list of references by the phone.

This is a short business call and is monitored. No time for chit chat...but once in a great while the person monitoring the call allows a few extra minutes.

The area code for GL is "847". My security clearance call, the caller ID said "US GOVERNMENT". We have also had "PAY PHONE" reported and then area codes for the surrounding areas...so answer all...and just get rid of those telemarketers!

Also, if you receive a call from your SR (at any time...not just the Security Call) and miss it...please do not call the number back. Your SR could get in trouble.

I am checking the RTC website as they have 11 Divisions for this TG but only ten are listed. So I am guessing our missing one is 905.

You see, there is a gap between PIR groups...11/30 to 12/21. BUT they have 52 900 divisions per year. So, if they skip a PIR they double or triple up if need be. Once they did not have ANY 900 division. It'll all get worked out in the wash.

Just go with your Form Letter and stay here for info. It is easy to change to the correct PIR group if this is not yours. We veterans are on all of them.

Hopefully RTC will get this all straightened out by Monday.

Comment by Felicia TEXASNAVYMOM on November 2, 2012 at 5:44pm: @Meza04..before bootcamp I wrote the Training Command Center and they told me they would not have a break at Christmas and they usually get that weekend after graduation to spend with family. HOWEVER...so many people were asking about it that I wrote to them again yesterday and I received the reply I posted below. I have already posted it once, but some may not have seen it.

Ma'am,

The command has not come to a decision on the possibility of holiday leave.
As soon as we do, we will let the recruit know so that they may communicate
it to their family and friends. Prior years, sailors have had the
opportunity to take leave.

Ocassionally we see some recruits getting this. They earn it or the RDC just grants it etc.

Normally you will not get that first real call until sometime at the end of the third or fourth week after their arrival date. The first mail will not come until sometime in the third week after arrival.

A MRPO Mail Recruit Petty Officer has to be trained and pass a test to handle the mail as it is a Federal entitiy.

The first week of arrival is P Days ...In processing. They are in temp housing until they are declared FFD (Fit for Full Duty) and then go on to their Permanant BC Ship. The first Sunday they are in it they do not have Holiday time. Too busy.This is 5 hours of "free time" for your recruits. There are still parameters as to what "free" is. :-) So it is the second Sunday that they usually get to write home for the first time. There are always exceptions. Some get early mail.

I believe that this upcoming Sunday is the first time your recruits will have the opportunity to write home.

Recruits receive mail M-S like we do...but in the beginning weeks Sunday is the time that they are allowed to read it. Usually after week four we get reports that the recruits are writing more often. Things are just better nd smoother so many RDC's allow more writing time.

She is Ship 02 DIV 905 I had already gotten her address from her recruiter and have mailed her several letters and cards with pictures. My eldest son is in the Air National Guard. We went to his graduation in 2010. She was very impressed by everything Air Force, especially seeing the planes that my father flew during WWII and Korea. She decided on the Navy because she loves the water and boats! She has chosen Aviation Machinist Mate as her job. Miss her but am so proud of her. Grandpa for sure is watching over her. He loved this country and would be so proud to know that two of his grandchildren have decided to serve. We're from MA.

They do not know the code word, or any of the instructions for PIR. Then what? What other option would you have except to contact The Training Command Center? If you ask your SR then he is not going to remember all of what was on that form letter to tell you. If they only get to mail out one, then what do parents do? I feel sorry for those parents who have not received theirs yet. I also feel bad for those parents you can't make it to PIR.

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on November 2, 2012 at 5:29pm: Ashley3188 - The TG's (Training Groups) are in Divisions. The regular Divisions pair up as Brother Divisions. So 035 and 036 are Brother Divisions. It looks like they may be Integrated...males and females. So the males from both Divisions would then share a compartment.

He is in one or the other though...call PAO and tell them and see if they will give you the individual Division number so you can get that mail out to him!
