For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by Zman'smom on November 21, 2012 at 7:14pm: I got a questionnaire back today (Ship 03 Div 039) that was postmarked the 19th! This is the first I've heard from him since Oct 25th!! My son, Zach, is not one for writing so we agreed I'd send him questionnaire's. He said they had just had an inspection and he had no hits on his rack. Glad I know what that means. :) The yelling has stayed the same. On a scale of 1 - 10 (10 being awesome & 1 being pitiful) he gave a score of 4 for their division working as a team, but they're getting better. He said he did well on PI...does anyone know what that means??

Comment by DaytonaBeachMom on November 21, 2012 at 6:52pm: I had a letter today (Ship 03, Div 039) that was written on Sunday Nov. 18. He had a wisdom tooth out and a baby tooth he still had!! and so was in Bed Rest for 2 days. Says he thinks he slept for 18 hours each day. He has tried out for a "stick" in the drill marching so he will be carrying a flag for graduation (hopefully). He has gotten at least one letter from me as he responded to a couple of questions. They had their first test yesterday and Sunday was free time from 7:00 am to 1:00. He says he can't wait to get on to A school as they say that is amazing!! Just trying to pass on some news!

Comment by Kimberley on November 21, 2012 at 6:07pm: No mail from my son today. Thought for sure there would be. He did write 2 Sundays ago and got that letter last Thursday. There were no details at all about boot camp, he had a lot of personal stuff to each of his siblings and mom and dad. I've read that letter countless times. Hoping maybe for a call tomorrow. If not, will be checking the mail every few minutes!

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on November 21, 2012 at 5:36pm: Since RTC will be on Standown (as much as they can, recruits are still there in training. though they do not receive new ones during the standown), usually all Graduating Sailors must leave base.

Last year the parameters were well spelled out and posted publicly. SInce they have not done that this year I am assuming that your Sailors are being told and contacting you. If they have not, I would be contacting PAO. I know they are extremely busy but this is imprtant.

Sailors had several options for leave and what they were supposed to do to accomlish it. See this PAGE on your PAGES section as an example: 2010, 2011 DECEMBER PIR's and how Holiday Leave played out

** The times I gave for leaving and reporting back are assumptions. Also, maybe they do not want it posted in public? Just not sure...

Ugh...I RELY on the public postings on this stuff so I can get it to you! You are very welcome, sorry I can't give you anything more concrete.
