~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".
The Weather Widget is interactive. Click the green dot on the top bar and drag it along the to change the time. Click LIVE to go back to current time. Click on the days to change to that day or expand out to six days.

Hey Rebecca - No letters from 02/906 yet, but have heard that they started mailing on Sunday/Monday. For Adopt a Sailor, your SR has to send you the form letter as soon as they get it. Those should be coming out anytime - typically about 4 weeks before the holiday. You fill it out & return by deadline for consideration. If you get a call from your SR, mention that he should mail that form letter to you asap.
None here Rebecca :(
Oh yes! We're from Wyoming originally, so we're REALLY familiar with snow, blowing snow, ice...sounds delightful, doesn't it! LOL Three years ago my husband and both boys left NC for my parents' house in Ohio so they could spend the week before Christmas with them. It was snowing a little. Then they get to the Virginia/West Virginia line (where the tunnels are) and traffic STOPS! Turns out two semis got stuck right before the tunnels and couldn't move. Hubby and boys spent the night in the car, until they finally got the trucks out of the way at about 9am the next morning. NOT a fun trip!
That's why we're cutting the trip in half. We're leaving NC on the 26th and driving to my parents house (that's about 10 hours, give or take). Then we'll spend the night, and the next morning head to Indiana. It's two hours from my parents' house to my sister's place, and then four hours from her house to the hotel. Not too bad, and it gives us plenty of time (since we leave at O-Dark-thirty in the morning), in case we have weather/traffic/bathroom/kid/car/food trouble. All of which my family is completely capable of! LOL
NCNarrator - plan on a two day drive from NC. When we did this trip 2 years ago for my older son's graduation we forgot the snow factor (probably because we very rarely get it in the section of NC where we live), which we definitely hit once we got to VA and continued all the way to Great Lakes. We even had to stop and find an ice scraper because we were not expecting that either. We are not making that mistake again for this graduation and are planning extra travel time and remembering the ice scraper
Newbie here wanting to connect with other moms with SR's on Ship 13 DIV 042 especially if your SR is going on to Ft. Sam H. for Corpsman A school :)
It's an indoor water park so it's open all year. Fun Fin FUN :) There is a similar one in Charlotte.
FYI, allow plenty of extra driving time and if possible make it a two day trip there and back. Mapquest said it was 12 hours from here (mountains of NC) and it took 15 and with even more delays on the way back it took a very long 18 hours to get home. Of course not as bad if you have two drivers. I did it all my self....CrAzY!!! lol
I am one excited Navy Mom tonight. Both of my Sailors (my daughter and her husband) got promoted to 3rd class Petty Officer today. YAY!!! :-D
The cost of the rooms is higher, but you can put more adults in them which means you can split the cost between more people. The rooms are my parents Christmas gift to us this year.
Diannep - yep! It's an indoor park. Similar to Great Wolf Lodge, which we've been to with my sister's family before. Lots of fun, and a great way to entertain family who want to be there but can't actually attend PIR.
We're hoping we'll get to bring our son back from camp with us after PIR. We have to leave to head back to NC on Saturday, so we won't have a lot of time, but something is better than nothing!
NC: Is the water park open this time of year?
