Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by diannep on November 19, 2012 at 3:21pm: Mail: They receive it M-F, and....there is no such thing as receiving TOO MUCH MAIL....they love it.....so write often!

Nika: I agree with Betsy...send a phone card. I'm sure he could use it because the payphones eat up a bunch of their minutes just to connect. Sometimes they will share their cards with SRs who have run out of minutes. So send one!

To all our moms, gf's, wives, fiances ((hugs)). I think the first week or two that they are away is the worst as far as missing them. Each day that passes, is another one down from the countdown. Just keep trying to remind that it will get better, especially when they are finally at their A schools. By the time Christmas is over, you will be able to Skype, call, text and email, Woohoo! It will be amazing how fast the time will fly by as the holidays are approaching. My son's graduation was 12/17 and I couldn't believe how fast that came that year. Keeping active and busy will help your keep your mind busy too.

My 18 year old daughter is on Ship 11 Div 043/044. I still have yet to receive personal mail from her. I read that some folks have had a phonecall! That's pretty awesome! I am not counting on any phonecalls....Only mail :) Hopefully this week!! I'm really starting to miss her! No contact in a world where we are used to cellphones and texting is really hard! I have to keep myself busy and try not to be on the computer all day lol!

She will go to A school in Meridian, MS. My husband is in the Navy also, so we are no stranger to military life. That sure does help. I still wish she had taken some more time before she decided to go....but they have to spread their wings at some point :)

Roll on 28 December!! So very proud of my daughter carrying on a long tradition!

If I hear more Ill let you know it was a Business call so my father spoke with him and I didn't get to. I'm hoping to hear from him this week. If I do Ill let you know.

I have a feeling that they will tell you that you will have to wait and hear from your SR on this but it is worth a try. I know all are concerned about getting plane tickets and the cost and availability. Please post what you are told so that all don't have to flood them with calls:
