OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

The Weather Widget is interactive. Click the green dot on the top bar and drag it along the to change the time. Click LIVE to go back to current time. Click on the days to change to that day or expand out to six days.

...because of this, some sailors will not want to use all of the leave days at Christmas...they will want to save some for later.

Good Morning Ladies!

Comment by diannep on November 19, 2012 at 10:11am

Just remember....if they have a "short" A School, as my son did, and they "go in the hole" for Christmas leave too much, they may not have accrued enough leave days by the end of A School to "pay back" those leave days they were "in the hold" for, and therefore, would have no leave between A School and duty station.  If they have a longer A School, this shouldn't be a problem.

Comment by Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor on November 19, 2012 at 10:07am

lerae, they haven't released information about leave for those who are not attending A school in Great Lakes, just yet.  There is a very good possibility that the others will be able to take their leave too, but we have to wait for the official word.

Sorry if this is a repeat question...just  wondering where I might be able to find out about leave for those going to A school in San Antonio,TX ? ty

AAAAAAAHHHH You have no idea how much hope you've given me. I have something to look forward to after graduation as well now.

I'm sorry it's not on Facebook it's on this web site under Groups, under Great Lakes A School Q & A.

I am copying the response from Skipper Lintner who is the official word at A school in Great Lakes - this response is posted at the Facebook page for Great Lakes A School Q & A on page 3.  This was posted in October as you can see.  Remember this is only for A school at Great Lakes.

Reply by Skipper Lintner on October 19, 2012 at 8:11am

This is Captain Lintner, the CO at TSC.  I have approved the leave dates and they are 21 Dec - 6 Jan.  All students must be back in their baracks by 2200 on the 6th. Sailors do not need to wait for approved leave chits to book flights.  Unless they end up in a disiplinary status, they will be granted leave for the holidays.  All students will have the option to take the entire leave period. Those graduating from bootcamp after the 21st will be allowed to depart on leave after graduation and will still be required to be back by 6 Jan. The ITT office on base is the easiest place for your sailor to purchase tickets but you can try any airline.  We have busses going to Milwaukee, Ohare and Midway so you can choose your airline. Buy early to get the best deal.  Encourage your sailor to use the MWR buss to the airports. Its the most painless way to get there.

The Friday after Thanksgiving has not yet been declared a day off but it typically is. Your sailor should be off Thursday through Sunday for the weekend. I am happy to answer any questions you might have.

Reply by Skipper Lintner on October 19, 2012 at 11:03am

Thats correct, Sailors earn 2.5 days per month, so they have 5 days when they start A school.  Anything over that amount is called going in the hole and they will have to earn that time back.

I know this answered my question about leave.  Hope it answers other peoples.
