~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Hey everyone - I'm not on Navy4Moms very much but I read every comment you all post through email. And even though I'm not here directly, it's awesome to know we're all in the same boat and we're all here for each other. Yesterday was ESPECIALLY hard on me for some reason and when I was reading my emails, it seemed like it was hard on most of us. I wish you all the best and my love goes out to all of you wives, mothers and girlfriends and your sailors... (if I forgot a group, didn't mean to!)
Good morning everyone, We got a wonderful surprise on Friday. Our daughter (my step-daughter) who has been away attending college at UNCW was supposed to come home for Thanksgiving on Tuesday evening. I made my daily trip to the post office Friday afternoon and when I came back home (no cars in the driveway) I walked in the house and and she was right there yelling Lala, I'm home lol. scared the crud of me lol. I was so happy and glad to have her home early. Her classes were canceled and she parked her car at the church so she could surprise us :)
Southwest Airlines also checks your first 2 bags for free!
Pennadair: In defense of your friend, things change and RDCs are different from one division to the next. It could be that his nephew was in a division where the SRs were receiving mail that they shouldn't have been....any thick letters are opened and inspected....to see what is making them so thick. Also, packages are opened...to that could be where the mixup was in your friend's info. Normal thickness letters are not opened. But they don't read the actual letters in the opened letters/packages...they just see what the "extra stuff" is. NO care packages are allowed at bootcamp so please let anyone know who may be writing to your SR about this. They can receive extra pushups, etc for receiving these...or just be "hazed" a little for them. Again, depends on the RDCs. My son was there over Thanksgiving/Christmas holidays also when he went in. Received a pkg from a vendor in TX. He is from FL. He had no idea who would have sent it ....wasn't anyone in my family. But could have been some of his former teachers who were writing to him and didn't know not to send anything. He was "grilled" by his RDCs as to who sent it (no name in the package). Did he know anyone in TX (of course, I think this was a vendor in TX so it could have been ordered from a person anywhere). They finally were convinced he didn't know about it, he opened it, it contained "Christmas goodies," the RDCs kept it....and later on, he could see them enjoying these goodies in their office! :-) Since this is holiday time again, please get the word out that no goodie packages can be sent.
Yes, No New is Good News....and this applies to the Navy after bootcamp too!
Nika: I know it is so hard to know that others are hearing from their SRs and you haven't yet. Just remember this: Some of them may have "watch" or be at medical/dental for checkups, etc...and miss their "calls home". This happened to my son when he was up there. Missed the division calls because of "watch" but his RDC let him make a call later that night. Hang in there...that first call/letter will have you doing the "happy dance!" Just be reassured that your SRs are working very hard up there.
And...did you all know that they cannot "fraternize" with the opposite sex? Nope. Now, some are integrated (male/female) divisions so they train together. But outside of training, they are not allowed to talk to each other. And....during "chow"....there is never any talking allowed. Just EATING! :-)
NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS!
Dianne, thanks for the info. Glad to know that they are not reading the mail. I guess I just need to quit listening to my "friend" whose nephew went through boot camp last year. He has given me a lot of misinformation. I am just going to hold on to the belief that no news is good news. Sure do miss my recruit though! :-)
@Brenda - my boyfriend is in ship 11 div 044 and said they are doing well. He said he is finally adjusted and that sounds about right after a week or so. He also said they should be sending out letters this week so that is exciting!
has anyone heard from Ship 11 Div 044 how they are doing? I haven't head anything from my daughter. I'm anxious to get a call.
Oh that's good to know about flying into Milwaukee. @Nika89xo my boyfriend was awarded the call for his run time being under 10 minutes. I didn't get to ask when everyone else would get to call, but am excited to get his letters this week!
Pennedair: No, the RDCs do not read the mail going out. They are not supposed to read the mail coming in either...but could confiscate anything that is mailed that should not be.
Rickysgirl: No, the PIR date for this group will not get "pushed up." All divisions here will PIR Dec 28th. Individuals could be setback, however, which is what happened to my son. Had to pay the change fee for two tickets (still cheaper than paying for refundable tickets which are very expensive!).
But, we do recommend that all check into getting tickets with Southwest Airlines, which doesn't charge a change fee (just the difference in ticket cost). They fly into Milwaukee WI (45 min from GL, no traffic, cheaper car rental) and Chicago-Midway (hour away but longer with traffic).
