Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by diannep on December 27, 2012 at 9:15am: NLVSailorsMom: Sarge is a wonderful asset to the Navy community up there. He is retired military, in the area for 30 yrs. He is a godsend to the sailors at GL A School and their transportation needs. He gives discounts to Navy families attending PIR for their transportation needs for the whole weekend. If you use his service from the airport, he takes you to/from PIR for free. He is a wonderful wealth of info so I hope that all can make his MeetandGreet tonight (info above in discussion group and also to the right of this page). You won't regret it! He even has "short cuts" to RTC for those driving....and other helpful hints!

Comment by Ingrid on December 27, 2012 at 1:50am: Well, ladies and gentlemen, I have finally made it! Here I am on the eve of leaving for Chicago for PIR. I NEVER thought I would make it. It is nice that I too am graduating from boot as well as all of you nice parents. WE made it and so did our sailors! I am very proud of all of them and THANK each one of you for helping me and others get through the difficult days we may have had. I am going to Sarge's meet and greet and look forward to meeting all of you! BIG HUGS.

p.s. Still looking for pictures of div 040 from Christmas....anyone?

Comment by usmarg03 Ship13 Div 42 on December 26, 2012 at 9:31pm: Thank you diannep I have just spoken with Sarge he can pick me up at the airport with another couple who is also coming in if DaytonaBeachMom wants to ride with us instead of taking the train that would be great and probably even cheaper. DaytonaBeachmom if you want call sarge and tell him you would like a ride in with Margaret. The other couple gets in at 10:30 so maybe we can meet and wait for them.
