N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

The Weather Widget is interactive. Click the green dot on the top bar and drag it along the to change the time. Click LIVE to go back to current time. Click on the days to change to that day or expand out to six days.

Good Morning, my son is on Ship 13 Div 041. I have not received any letters yet but have sent alot and I have been told that is a good thing. I keep writing to him to stay positive and focused.  This site is very informative and I appreciate having more knowledge. It's good because I can pass it onto his girlfriend.  Thanks, Melissa

Thanks Diannep.  I didn't know about the password so I will have send him a letter to let him know I didn't get it.  If it weren't for this forum I wouldn't have a clue what's going on!  Thanks everyone!!!

Trina:  It happens sometimes that they sneak a phone in....crazy to do this since it is costly for all...especially the offender.  They learn pretty quickly that if they don't follow the rules...verbatim....the whole division may pay for it.

When my son was there, one of his shipmates did something wrong...can't remember what it was now since this was back in 2009.  Anyway, the entire division did IT (Intensive Training) that night---this means bear crawls, etc...for 2 hours!  Then they all went to bed...exhausted and sweaty!  He said that the guy who caused it was not allowed to participate in the IT....he had to sit there and watch his shipmates paying for HIS mistake.  He said the SR ended up in tears....you can imagine what he was thinking....his shipmates were not too happy with him and I would imagine not so kind to him later!

There is no messing around up there.  They can be asmoed (setback) too for anything...that delays their training and PIR date.

For those not wishing to rent a car and looking for transportation to GL and on PIR Day, please contact SARGE  847 212 0246 since he not only has a MeetandGreet for you all the night before PIR, but has a transportation service for Navy families that is wonderful.  He is full of info (retired military) and knows the area very well.  He is a great guy....has a team that works with him...we hear rave reviews!  You can text him or call him.  He may be busy today, shuttling families around the GL area or to the airports to say goodbye to their sailors...but he will get back to you.

rotorwife:  Your SR will be updating his form letter guest list shortly before PIR.  So write him to make sure the proper names on on there.  The updated list is the one that will be given to security for check-in so that is the important one.  You will also need to ask your SR for the password that he wrote in the form letter.  You will need that to get your gate pass online about 11 days before PIR.  This will be used if you plan to drive onto the base.

Could he have mailed the form letter to anyone else?  They can only mail one out.  They have a strict policy up there that if your name is not on the list, you cannot go in, so make sure that names (that match name on ID) are accurate.  They use to allow "extras" in on a space-available basis, but may be changing that policy and only allowing those on the list in.

Meet and Greet info will be posted shortly.  The earliest ones start around 5 pm and go for 2-3 hours.  I believe the Ramada's starts at 6 pm until 8 pm.

S. FL ladies....check out Southwest Airlines from Ft Lauderdale airport into Milwaukee (45 min drive to GL) or Chicago-Midway (hour drive or longer depending on traffic).  No change fee for Southwest, first 2 bags check for free.  Car rental in Milwaukee is usually cheaper, no traffic. Easy access to GL.

Nice to meet you irishgryeyes...My son is a writer, but prefers to type not write by hand...I'm hoping that doesn't deter him.  The box contained some paperwork and a note...Mom, destroy this.  I just laughed.  He could have added, love you!!!  But I'm sure time was of the essence and I will wait.  I have been writing daily which is so helpful.  I admit to being very impatient thought and trying to keep the attitude that as each day goes by I'm closer to some communication and closer to graduation!

Nana2Seven Nice to meet you. I can count on one hand of the 10 kids who didnt serve in the military there were 4. The rest were all Navy with the exception of one Uncle who went Marines. When my dad spoke to my Son on Wed morning my son was getting addresses because of background check and he mentioned something about flag carrying. My father was just bursting. I hope my son doesnt use his avoidance of writing to skip writing me back. LOL

My son said they were in thier bunks and you could hear it buzzing. He said they watched a video about that very same thing and the person who did it lost 1/2 a months pay. That part of his letter ended and he started writing again 5 days later so he didn't tell what happened. I asked in the letter I wrote back but haven't heard yet. My husband says its normal this early for there to be ones that think its funny to not follow the rules but they will quickly learn because the rest will get tired really fast with paying the price for the ones not following the rules. He drilled it in his head to stay under the radar for as long as he could.
