For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by NCNarrator on November 16, 2012 at 9:42pm: Got a letter from my son today! He's in Ship 03, Div 40. He said boot camp is not as bad as he was afraid it would be, but it was hard. He also mentioned there were some issues with guys that had some attitude issues, and that they had some trouble with talking, so they were doing a lot of PT. He sounded great! So happy to hear from him!!

My son is on Ship 13 Div 40, he said they weren't well together but it all good.

Comment by grayiiiis on November 16, 2012 at 9:18pm: Ingrid my son is in DIV 040 and I was told it was a strong unit. Someone did sneak.in a phone and he was hopeful they all didn't pay the price but my son sounded good just tired.

Your response to Ingrid made me feel a lot better, since our sons are in the same division. You're right, they are barely into their second week of actual training, given that the first week was Pdays. Ingrid, I am sure that things have gotten better since he wrote his letter, as it was probably written this past Sunday.

Comment by diannep on November 16, 2012 at 8:56pm: Ingrid: It is still pretty early for this group....they are only a week or two into actual training. That is the very hard time. When you write back, remind him that A School is totally different...so much better. Bootcamp is a breakdown/build back up experience. They are in the breaking down stage....it is painful. So....write alot....lots of encouragement....bootcamp is not supposed to be a fun experience....but it sure builds them into wonderful sailors! :-)

I hate to hear that things aren't going so well in division 040, because that's Adam's division, too. Now I am worried. :-( Did he say what's going on?
