Thanks everyone for what you've been saying regarding what our SR's are going through. I'm just a big old worry wart!! This place is the best and I have learned so much! :-)
diannep - Thanks for letting me know that....I'm a little more at ease now.
As far as the news about some recruits screwing up, I seriously doubt that it's anyone's kid on here because parents who are on here really care about their kids. It's been my experience (teaching high school kids) that most of the troublesome kids come from troubled homes (though not all). These kids have a chip on their shoulder and are angry because they feel they are not cared about. That is certainly not true of the parents on this forum. We care about our kids or we wouldn't even be here posting night and day, looking for any small piece of information about our recruits, their units, their daily activities, etc.
Boot camp is about more than just getting physically fit...it teaches them to discipline their emotions, to realize the world does NOT revolve around them, and to not simply live "in the moment" but to make sound decisions about their future. I always taught my boys "every decision has a consequence." A lot of kids are just learning that now. It will be okay...they will grow and be better people for it.
To Wife64, when The Prince wrote on 12/24 he said they would be Day 1-1 on 12/29. Then when he wrote on 12/31, he referred to "now that we've started our actual training" so I assume they must've started on 12/29 as scheduled. In that case, today is the end of Week 2. That 12/31 letter is also when he said they'd have a phone call on 1/13. I'll keep you posted if I hear anything else.
As for sharing fears and info, this site has been completely invaluable to me AND to my recruit. We were both way more prepared for what to expect from this experience than the folks we've met who are NOT on N4Ms. I was astounded at how little some of the other folks at our swear-in knew! I'd be a complete basket case right now if not for this site and the amazing people who play here with me. ;)
The Prince even wrote in his last letter that he thinks it's hilarious how much I know about what he's doing even when he's unable to write and tell me. He added that "Arwen was right; we have very little spare time and it's usually spent marching and ironing!" Funny, right?!
I did bristle a little seeing that there are certain recruits screwing things up for the rest of their division, because I worried about the moms from that division reading it here and worrying that it might be THEIR kid doing the screwing, y'know. But (sadly) I think we here are the minority rather than the majority; we care too much and so our kids/brothers/husbands are probably not the troublemakers.
