Spoiled rich kid down the block! That is funny. My older son is taking me to the movies today to see the Little Fockers. For once, I will leave my cell phone on in the movies! Well, maybe on vibrate. But It will be with me, just in case..... Love to all!

Check the website www.sidestep.com for air, car and hotel reservations. They compare the prices at all the sites available and give you the best price. I travel alot and use them all the time.

I haven't flown since 1994 and even then the arrangements were made for me.  Can someone with experience tell me if going with someone like Expedia or Orbitz and getting the flight/hotel/car is the best deal or should I book these things separately?

Hello, I am new to this site, My son left for boot camp Dec 14th, I see some of you have spoken with your son, or daughter yesterday. I haven't since arrival. I haven't recieved the letter for PIR. I feel a tremendous loss with him gone, it is especially hard on my husband. I am beginning to worry of why we haven't recieved information of address, division or date of graduation. Any info will be appreciated, thank you!

Hi all. Just wanted to share how we got through the holiday.

I saw the "blue candle" info on the sidebar here at N4M and did some research. We had a bunch of all white candles down the middle of our table at Thanksgiving... so we took all the white candles to my sisters house {where we were celebrating Christmas} and put them all up on her mantle. Then, we put three small light blue candles in them them {no signifigance with the number... we just happened to have three} and lit ALL the stem candles when everyone got there. Then, after our big meal, we had one of the kids read what I had printed out about lighting a blue candle and Battle Stations 21. Then, one of my nephews lit a large, dark blue pillar candle we had.

My husband and I were crying, but it really helped.

We also passed out sheets of paper and had everyone write a short note. We will mail them tomorrow!!

I think we are very emotional about it because of two things. Not necessiarly because we are separated from our recruit, but because of the lack of communication. That's the first thing. And the second is the stress and worry of our recruit passing all the tests and doing well with Battle Stations 21. It seems to be a huge weight on our shoulders.

Have we done enought to prepare our recruit. Will our recruit be strong enough... not just physically, but emotionally and mentally.

Anyway... lighting the candles and having our little "ceremony" really helped us through the day. I was praying we'd get a call... but not call came. Also, we live in Illinois and we can get WGN from Chicago. They showed recruits eating out in the community with church groups, etc., and my mom called for us to change the channel and watch. But I think those recruits were from the January 2011 PIR dates.  :-(

Happy Holidays to all you Moms and friends. Post what you're doing to get through this challenging time. Thanks.
