itsmewendee: I know it doesn't make alot of sense why they get to the airport hours before their departure. And, I know it doesn't seem fair to us that they don't consider the families wanting to spend time with the sailors. We have to remember, though, that this is the military and they do things that make sense to/for them and not to/for us. My husband is Army National Guard and I've learned that things just don't make any sense sometimes and I chalk it up to just being the way things go in the military. I still don't like things but I've learned to accept them. (The one instance that really irked me was when the unit left for the airport at 2300 and they didn't fly out until 0700 the next morning. Considering they were leaving for Iraq, it would have been nice to have had some extra time.)
For me, we aren't going to PIR. My sailor leaves early on Saturday also to head to his A school and he asked us to go there instead. GL is a 13 1/2 hour drive for us, whereas A school is 4 1/2 hours. We'll get there Saturday and have through Monday with him, also. As much as I hate to miss PIR, spending more time with him is more of a precedent. It is tough that you are only going to get to see him for a short while; I am sure you will make the best of it and enjoy your time together.
Good Morning Everyone,,,, Happy day I drive to Vegas today an then fly out tomorrow,,,, It seems like yesterday I was missing my babygirl, and a matter of days I will have her in my arms, hugging her an kissing her. I printed a check list someone posted here don't recall the name sorry:( but my hubby was wondering what is the lent brush for an the tide stick.. Just wondering, I try to tell him that is for her just incase she gets dirty or something.. his reply is well it happenns what can they do.. I told him they can make her do push ups or sit ups lol.. so can some one else tell me anything else I might need. if you already attended graduation. Oh ya also we are renting a car, staying at the super 8 motel about 4 miles from RTC. I was going to take the shuttle from the hotel but it departs at 6 15am should I just drive there better.. shuttle is first come first serve.
Happy, happy morning, friends!!! Couldn't get online last night to read and share with you all, but I HAVE A SAILOR!! And he's such a nudge -- took 3 calls just to get a phone where I could hear him, and then I asked how was it? and he replied "How was what??"
I nearly flew through the phone!!!
We had a great phone call and were able to 3-way his sister into the conversation, so she cried and we all chit-chatted for about 20 minutes.
Just can't wait to get up there. I'm so proud and so excited!! Don't think the hubby's going to be able to get a flight after all, but he says he'll arrange to go to Chicago in a month or so while The Prince is still in Dive Prep and they can have a "guys' weekend." That'll be a good bonding experience for them. So, it's looking like this will be mom/sis/grandma weekend. LOL!!
Getting my pink scarf fluffled appropriately . . . can't wait to see you all tomorrow!!!
Great Lakes here we come!!!!!
When you look at those days left you can't help but remember the first time you saw the double digits and think this will NEVER end. We've all been through so much in the last 8 weeks, learning to adjust without our sons and husbands. Joy, disappointment.. we've experienced the whole spectrum.
I have to say even though I tend to be quiet, I can't thank you all enough for helping me get through this. Even though my son is light on details you all helped me keep track of what was going on. That more than anything has helped me feel connected.
It's been a pleasure and it's not over yet! I can't wait to meet as many of you as possible tomorrow!
