...my son was so nervous about being back on time from liberty on PIR day...that when my other son's GPS took us to a "shuttered up"  restaurant for dinner, my sailor said, "Look, I don't need to eat.  I CAN'T BE LATE...I'll just forget dinner.  I have to get back."  WOW!  Him skipping a meal???  Geez!  Thankfully he didn't have to do that as we found another quick spot...where he actuallly got to visit with some sailors from the A School base.  But I had to laugh to see him so mindful of all of the rules....but was quite proud that he was doing that!

If you have not yet been to the PIR Reference group site yet, please visit it and you will find great info. It is under all groups.

Also...your SR will tell you when the are scheduled to stand watch over the weekend. The rules for returning on time are the same...DONT BE LATE!!...lol

ochaos--that is CORRECT...your SR does NOT want to be the one responsible for the whole division missing precious liberty time. You all will find that you SR will seem nervous about getting back on time, so dont be surprised if they dont have to be back till 9:00 and at 7:00, they are getting ready to return...lol Dont try to talk them out of it, they have been warned of the consequences, and want to make sure they are there. Also, it takes a good 20 minutes or so from the drop-off point to the ship area of the base.

The sailors must be in their barracks when liberty is over, make sure they have enough time to walk back to their area.  If they are late it can cost the whole division to lose liberty time, and you do  not want to be responsible for that, calling to say they will be late because they missed the train, traffic, etc does not cut it.

Please read these guidelines and follow them as it is very important and you do not want to get your sailor in trouble.  There will be people out in public watching to make sure the sailors are following the rules.

Liberty is ‘time off’ from the daily routine. Graduating Sailors will be granted liberty to go off-base during the day with their families.

  1. Graduating Sailors may not smoke, drive, or consume alcoholic beverages while on liberty.
  2. Graduating Sailors must stay within a 50-mile radius of RTC.
  3. Graduating Sailors must remain in their complete uniform while on liberty. If they are engaging in physical activity or swimming, they must be in authorized Navy issued workout gear.
  4. Liberty expires at 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 8 p.m. on Sunday. No overnight liberty is authorized. Due to security checks and transit time, please allow ample time for graduating Sailors to walk back to their assigned ship prior to the end of liberty.
  5. Families may not enter the base after graduation and will need to meet graduating Sailors for liberty at the main RTC gate.
  6. Graduating Sailors departing RTC for follow-on training the same day as graduation or in a duty status will be granted limited on-base liberty.
  7. Graduating Sailors receive an in-depth liberty briefing prior to their graduation day.

One thing to remember with the military what has happened in the past may not happen again.  The time allotted for calls can and does change, the info we are passing on was what happened with our recruits and it may not be the same with yours.  So just keep in mind that do not set anything in stone only in sand as it can and will change. Do not count on anything until it actually happens and then you are not disappointed and feel blessed by it.

This is my second son in the military and a good example for you would be from my oldest in the Air Force - transfer to new base by Oct.1, not told where it would be and this was in August - told in mid Sept. different base by Jan 1, two weeks later he was told he is actually going to a different base from what he was told mid-sept.to a different state be there by Dec. 1.  I have seen this happen over and over with other friends people in the military, learn to be flexible and do not make anything in pen, only pencil and you will save yourself stress, it is hard to adapt to when you are used to having firm info and but you will adjust.  They may tell you we are flying out to new school on ?, but if the orders do not get processed or something happens to delay stuff or the Navy's needs change itineraries change.

Yes, janlee, I do remember that. What a mess it was!  But at least they got it done, right?  Yes, 4 divisions go at one time in almost every PIR group, but not all nights.

My son's division got Hall of Fame, but I didn't ask what all they had to do.  He said that if they did well in BattleStations, they would get it...so I'm gathering it is a cumulative procedure where they collect flags/points as they go along.

Comment by janlee on March 18, 2011 at 12:23pm
Im not familiar with the Hall of Fame, but from what i hear..when  a division wins every flag from every test, inspection, etc...including Captains Cup. I will look for more info...>)
