Maybe the Navy gives you a choice of jobs or a choice of homeport but not both.  If you choose the homeport option, you are not guaranteed a particular job.  You get what is available at the homeport.  If you choose the job option, you are not guaranteed a particular port but you know you get to do the job you are assigned.

CDanielle-That is wonderful news.  I am sure he will get the float next time with no problem (heck he will probably go over the time for extra measure).  So happy for you and for him!!!

HE CALLED HE CALLED HE CALLED!!!!!!!! MY BF CALLED!!!!! He passed the swim portion of the test. He said he just has to pass the float. He said he took the float test yesterday and he only missed it by 10 seconds! I got to talk to him for 18 minutes! He is very determined to pass and he is tired of being there..lol. He said HE WILL do PIR with his Division because he is ready to go and he misses them. He used a lot of "colorful" language on this call because he says he is very frustrated. He said he has passed everything else and now in this new division he is just helping everyone else out with the things they are failing. He said he believes he was placed in this DIV for a purpose by God. He requested I bring him underwear and undershirts to PIR..lol! Even though I could clearly tell he was very frustrated he also sounded very confident & determined to pass the float part of the test so he can do battlestations. Thank You everyone for your prayers! Continue to pray for him to get that float! He is so close!!!

Dianep:  Let me clarify...looking at his contract now he is in the PACT-Seaman program. and it clearly states in his contract he is guaranteed homeport option. It further states he may waive his homeport option if applicable while in recruit training. He will then become eligible for assignment as the needs of the Navy require. If he accepts reassignment for another A school or other apprenticeship then the homeport assignment guarantee is null and void. They told us his A school is just 3 weeks at GL so it's not like the others that are getting schooling on their actual rate.  A couple of weeks ago he said SR's staying at GL made their wish list and that he would find out his homeport a week before graduation.

So....that's all I know....I don't know why this is in bold....it won't type non-bold....oh well...btw....he went in E1.....wrote while in BC he was promoted to E2.
