A year ago you left your home

so today you get an anniversary poem

One year ago you left this place

And I still see that look upon your face

Leaving all you ever knew

Was the bravest thing you could ever do

The first 8 weeks seemed so unreal

but the trip to Chicago helped us heal

I am so proud of you and all that you've done

but miss you so bad my precious son

First you get stationed on the west coast

but that’s not the part that I don’t like most

Your on a destroyer what can a mom  say

be safe and be strong and keep out of harms way

When your out on the ocean

I am full of emotion

I am not overjoyed

to have you deployed

But it is what it is so bring it on back

you’ve been gone long enough and that is a fact

With this deployment nearly done

its time to plan for a little fun

Stand tall and be proud you did a great job

Hurry home Halsey-I miss you rob

wow I love the poem very very good and true...I can't believe its been a year since we all went to PIR in GL.  My OS daughter on the Decatur (I believe in the same area of the world as your son) just finished getting her ESWS (the hardest quals one will take in their Navy careers).  What they have accomplished in a year and what they now know its amazing; kinda comparing this first year to their first year of childhood sorta lol.  They've come a long way baby! Navy Baby! Us too as parents what a roller coaster ride we have been on too.  Congrats to you and your son as well.  GO NAVY Can't wait to see them on their return from deployment.
Thanks for the wonderful poem debRN! It seems that our sons are on the same navy road regarding SD and then a destroyer! It has been a year of riding roller coasters with big ups and downs. Thanks again.
