Jessica, Said perfectly! I can't wait to get that first phone call and man am I hoping I don't burst into tears when I hear his voice! (Although he'll expect it!) Great idea about a pen and paper to write it down so I can remember what he says. I thought they weren't allowed any pictures or newspaper clippings. (maybe that's just marine bc. His best friend went marines and went through BC this summer)

I'm telling you, just getting a short note from him has so lifted my spirits and just really helped me let go of some anxiety and actually I realize I'm actually pretty much just excited now to get another letter, call and especially to see him in April at graduation! I've never doubted he has made the best decision and we're so proud of and for him, but, still, we're super close and it's been hard not hearing from him... I miss his energy around the house.

This site is wonderful. I also have the benefit of having another local Navy mom (the best friend/Marine's mom is also a Navy Medic's mom who is currently on his 3rd deployment) so we support each other and she's been there, she actually pointed me towards NavyForMoms.

Thanks again for your positive comments... Great idea about the jokes!

Got my son's letter today. My husband showed up where I work which ia about 30 minutes from where we live. He knew that I was dying to hear. However, my son said that it is really rough. He was really tired. We did not receive his call until 2:00 a.m. when he arrived, so I am not sure if he even got to sleep that night. He said he loved us and was homesick already. He and I are really close as is our extended families. I guess the closeness was one good thing that came out of my divorce. He and I would have long talks and discussions. His step-dad told me one time that he never talked to his mom like Blaine and I talked and others told me many times that I was lucky, not many boys talk to their mom's like he did. His step dad said there are some things he talked to me about that he would never have talked to his mom about. lol His ship is 06 Division 152. I am sure that it will get easier for him as he adjust, but man it is hard to know he is going through that adjustment. I already had letters written from the day he left and shipped them overnight as he asked that we write as soon as we could. I didn't know about the phone card but I will send one asap also. Thanks to everyone for the info they provide.

Ship 13, Div 149: I just got the grad info and short note from my son. What a relief to hear something from him. He sounds upbeat so that is encouraging. I hope the next few weeks prove to be the same for him. The letter confirms his grad date of April 9th. If you haven't got yours yet...hang on...it's coming soon!

Has anyone already made their flight and hotel arrangements? I'm thinking maybe I should take care of it this week. I've got to talk to my x and see if they're planning to fly with us, stay at the same hotel and whether they plan to share a rental car with us or what? Any other divorced families sharing a sailor for the weekend? (we get along fine and I adore his new wife so that's not a problem.)

I am still waiting for a letter to come but happy that some mom's and dad's are getting phone calls and letters, At least I know they are pretty much all together over there I miss her so much tears are coming less often but the ache in my heart remains....

Woo Hoo! We got a call today!!! He sounded great. He said the pancakes were good, he was finally getting sleep, and today was the first day they marched without ski masks and scarfs. It was so good to hear his voice.

He also told us that there was a problem with the form letters. The form letter said ship 03 div 143 PIR 4/9. He said his will be 4/2. We are so excited going to start making travel plans...

My son arrived at GL 2/9 and is set for PIR 4/9/2010. The form letter and a short letter from him both arrived yesterday. I swear, I floated on air from the mailbox to the house to open them! Just to hear from them makes it so much easier. I can't wait to see him at graduation! This site is so awesome, and filled with great information. So glad to finally be a member. (my son has been in the DEP program since right before graduation last June) I didn't want to actually join until I was a SR's mom! What a whirlwind the last 2 weeks have been...

Any other mom's with recruits in Ship 6 Div 921? I'll keep watching the groups for a few daysto see if there's a group started before I start one.
